Software Update 6.20 Feedback

Software Update 6.20 is now available for the Forerunner 245 and Forerunner 245 Music. These updates can be downloaded through Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile.

Changes made from 5.50 to 6.20

  • Improve the software update process for external accessories. Installation prompts will now appear after an activity to avoid interrupting activity start.
  • Added support for displaying metrics from an indoor rowing machine that supports the ANT FE-C profile (e.g. Concept 2 with the PM5 module). This includes new fields for the Indoor Rowing app: Distance, Pace, and Stroke Distance.
  • Added descriptive workout step audio prompts.
  • Improvements to heart rate broadcast.
  • Add more smartphone app logos for smart notifications.
  • Block music controls and disconnect headphones in airplane mode. Forerunner 245 Music only
  • Fix dropout issues on Jaybird Vista headphones. Forerunner 245 Music only
  • Fix a rare issue that could cause heart rate data to appear flat in Garmin Connect.
  • Fix an issue that could prevent LiveTrack from starting when Auto Start is enabled.
  • Fix an issue with workout alerts when the background color is set to black.
  • Fix an issue sometimes causing distance remaining to not display the hundredths digit.
  • Other minor improvements and bug fixes.

  • Du you use a heart rate monitor on the chest or just the watch? The watch is not good enough

  • I use the watch HR but before the recent firmware updates is was pretty spot on compared to a chest strap HR.

  • Ok. In my opinion it is useless without chest strap hr.

  • I've tested the watch HRM on me against medical grade equipment and it has performed surprisingly well. I can see how "your mileage may vary" though with various factors like skin colour, arm hair, sweatiness, watch tightness/positioning.

  • Unfortunately this killed my HR during indoor cycling; averages about 60 bpm too low when I got going.

Pretty frustrating, as it’s the same problem I had when I initially got the watch. Some update fixed it, which was awesome, but now I’ve gone backwards.

It’s been too icy to try out the headphones while running. Hopefully tomorrow!

  • Music controls stopped working for me on FR245. I can control sound volume, but thats all. I see what is playing, but play/pause and forewards backwards controls do not work

  • Both of my BLE speed sensors have stopped working. They show speed during activity but no distance and at end of activity there is no speed or distance data. The MooFit I switched to Ant+ to fix problem.

  • BLE speed sensors have stopped working. They show speed during activity but no distance and after activity there is no speed or distance data. Only Ant+ seems to work now. Any fix for this or way to rollback?

  • Echoing what others have said above me regarding Jaybird Vista connection issue. Version 6.20 does not fix connection drop issue with Forerunner 245 Music.

  • since the update, my 245 does not calculate vo2max and 7days training load anymore. this has been working w/o issues before.

Since the upgrade, i've recorded numerous runs (well above an hour, different intensities, with HR sensor). regarding vo2max, it says I need to run for 10mins outside (which I did a couple of times) and for training load, it says I need to use the watch for more than 7 days (which I did).

any advice how i can activate these features again?
