Software Update 6.20 Feedback

Software Update 6.20 is now available for the Forerunner 245 and Forerunner 245 Music. These updates can be downloaded through Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile.

Changes made from 5.50 to 6.20

  • Improve the software update process for external accessories. Installation prompts will now appear after an activity to avoid interrupting activity start.
  • Added support for displaying metrics from an indoor rowing machine that supports the ANT FE-C profile (e.g. Concept 2 with the PM5 module). This includes new fields for the Indoor Rowing app: Distance, Pace, and Stroke Distance.
  • Added descriptive workout step audio prompts.
  • Improvements to heart rate broadcast.
  • Add more smartphone app logos for smart notifications.
  • Block music controls and disconnect headphones in airplane mode. Forerunner 245 Music only
  • Fix dropout issues on Jaybird Vista headphones. Forerunner 245 Music only
  • Fix a rare issue that could cause heart rate data to appear flat in Garmin Connect.
  • Fix an issue that could prevent LiveTrack from starting when Auto Start is enabled.
  • Fix an issue with workout alerts when the background color is set to black.
  • Fix an issue sometimes causing distance remaining to not display the hundredths digit.
  • Other minor improvements and bug fixes.

  • Also, the issue that many are having is Garmin Express pushes the update to the watch, but the watch does not install it successfully. Happened to me.

  • Has Garmin tweaked (improved?!) sleep tracking with this update?

This morning I woke after a poor (but reasonably lengthy) night's sleep to my FR245 telling me it had updated sensors and FW or whatever to 6.20. Half an hour later it told me that due to a poor night's sleep my recovery had been delayed. Thing is, that actually felt accurate for pretty much the first time. The sleep monitoring on the FR to this point has been *woeful*. I've only worn the watch for about 4 months but I've lost count of the number of times I've had an awful night's sleep but because I've spent >8hrs in bed - often awake, even reading for hours at a time, even as the watch tells me I'm in REM...yet in the morning the watch tells me I've had an excellent night's sleep and it has reduced my recovery time accordingly.

Anyway, this morning was the first time the watch has actually delayed my recovery and I'm just curious whether it was coincidence or related to the update?

  • I already had the notification that my recovery was delayed due to poor sleep in a prior update, so this might have been improved/changed in this update, but the feature was definitely there before.

It seems the on-device sleep tracking is already there, since these notifications come regardless of a sync, so sleep is obviously evaluated on-device. But the feature is not yet ready, so we still get the cloud tracking for now...

  • This didnt fix dropout with jaybird vista.  It worked fine for 3 k, and then drop out every now and then. At 9 k it dropped out for good.

  • I am still experiencing Jaybird Vista connection drop outs with the 6.20 update. Connection was fine for first mile, then would disconnect and reconnect periodically.  Please fix, very frustrating.

  • High heart rate is still an issue. I updated this morning, immediately restarted, then did a run. I definitely pushed it, but NOT to the degree that my watch indicated (209bpm).

Can someone actually acknowledge this and make and effort to resolve it, as heart rate monitoring is the primary reason I use my watch.

  • Yep. I just came back from an outdoor run. It works fine on the right wrist, but it's still a total disaster if I try to wear on my left.

  • I had it on the right wrist

  • Pourquoi y a pas une mise à jour pour la puissance en course à pieds?

  • Everything seems to be ok for me apart from HR still being higher than it should be. Did an easy paced 9min mile run last night and now my recovery is down to 41 hours, was over 65.
