(Known Issue) GPS Recorded Track Shifted by FAR with Respect to the Map

I had a weird issue today. It seems that Garmin put my recorded activity track over 300m to the left with respect to where I in fact actually ran. This is the screenshot I got from this activity. It never happened before. Of course, the GPS signal was acquired prior to starting the activity. Is there a way to solve it?

    1. Yep, me too. Happened to me on a run this morning. The tracking was ridiculously off and bizarrely started mid-run 5 miles in! I too have GPS + GLONASS set. Will try GPS + Galileo for my next run. Edit: Just spoken to some friends with the same issue. One of those has GPS + Galileo set so it's not Glonass as suspected. Also checked my CPE and that is current.

I realise that it has been over a year since this happened the first time but as you can see it is happening again in a big way. I personally know 3x runners this happened to today. Is this something Garmin is aware of?

  • Never had the issue, but this morning the GPS gone crazy.
It's a spot I trained multiple time (speed roller skating on open road). Perfect for GPS (few buildings, none high), the track was always excellent. It's a circuit I did 9 times for a total of 35km, we should see a clean and simple track. But obviously I learned to fly this morning...

  • Gone crazy again for me. Was fine during the week.

Shame no one from Garmin has responded to or acknowledged this.

Thinking I might have to try a competitors device at this rate.

  • Wow, that's a really good example of the issue. Hope someone from Garmin can investigate it and let us know what's going on.

  • I wonder if Garmin is the only company affected by this and is a GPS issue. I have been using GPS + GLONASS, but I've read on this thread that someone was using another setting and still had this issue.

  • It appears to only be affecting some of Garmins watches like the 245 and Fenix 6.

  • Same here. But i´ve GPS+Galileo and the 245

  • Had the same problem with a run 6 hours ago. The start and finish of the run seems to be okay, but the rest of the run was just messed up. This erroneously led to higher PRs, and an increase in v02max.

I deleted the run on Strava, and created a manual entry, to sort out the PR issues on Strava.

Deleted the run on Garmin Connect, but v02max and training load stayed the same. Tried uploading an edited version of the Fit file, removing location data, but that did not seem to help.

Deleted the activity on my watch, but v02max is still erroneously higher.

Really frustrating that there is no easy way to remove bad GPS data, or to disregard an activity from the training metrics. All the more reason for Garmin to issue a fix for this ASAP.

  • A new case needs opening up again. Loads of us with issues but no response from Garmin so far.
