(Known Issue) GPS Recorded Track Shifted by FAR with Respect to the Map

I had a weird issue today. It seems that Garmin put my recorded activity track over 300m to the left with respect to where I in fact actually ran. This is the screenshot I got from this activity. It never happened before. Of course, the GPS signal was acquired prior to starting the activity. Is there a way to solve it?

  • Hi I had the same issue yesterday. The registered track is shifted to the east by 250 meters. What is wrong?

  • 245 Music. Gps shift started yesterday, ran today the exactly same run as on Monday, first k was way short of a kilometer, the rest up to 5 k was out, the remaining 7 were ok I think. It tracked the outward run correctly but the return was out, shifted to the right. All the elevations were out compared to the previous run on Monday.

  • I just ran a test to see if the issue will persist. Here are the steps that I took that, for some reason, resolved the issue for me. At least this time.

    1. Restarted my watch, left if off for a couple of minutes (this was a suggestion from the Garmin support team, they suggested 30 seconds off).

    2. Made sure that my phone (android) gives permission to the Garmin Connect app to continue running even when it isn't used, disallow power saving mode.

    3. Made sure all the software on my watch is up to date.

I then did a small walk around the neighborhood, approximately 400 meters, and it shows relatively accurate GPS logging on the Garmin Connect app.

I will try again tomorrow with a run and see if it is resolved.

Curious to know if this resolves the issue for anyone else or if this is just a coincidence.

  • Although yesterday I tried to restart a run to see whether accuracy got better (it didn't) I synced this morning and tested whether GPS was reflecting reality again and it did. Courses feature seemed to be working again as well, it was giving the right instructions for directional changes. So I even thought lets race a previous race (broken for ages) and to my surprise it was working this time, I didn't start with more than one hour behind. I just did a few hundred meters of that race and it seemed to reflect reality. I also tried it with my S t r y d e connected and that had no effect, race an activity still worked fine.

  • It is fixed for me today without me doing anything.

  • Yes! Both yesterday and today (Forerunner 945 with GPS+Galileo in Sweden).

Yesterday, it was raining, but stable sunny weather today, and still shifted 260 m EastNorthEast

  • Me too, 245 displaying fine until after software upgrade 27 June.

  • Had the same problem for the first time. 245 GPS+ Galileo, shifted 400 m to the east

  • What I think is more peculiar is that it seems like it is shifting differently for different people. For me it shifted northeast 300 meters.
