(Known Issue) GPS Recorded Track Shifted by FAR with Respect to the Map

I had a weird issue today. It seems that Garmin put my recorded activity track over 300m to the left with respect to where I in fact actually ran. This is the screenshot I got from this activity. It never happened before. Of course, the GPS signal was acquired prior to starting the activity. Is there a way to solve it?

  • Some problem here. Today I was doing a complex course in a city where you can get lost easily and it was a total nightmare. It indicated I was 300m from the official start compared to the week before when I did the same run with the older version of the software. When looking at the run on the map it has indeed shifted to the South-East-East, but the shift is not constant. In reality the start and finish are 50m apart and on the map it was 250m.

Also tracks on the map don't properly align with all roads when I compensate for the shift.

  • So I did a warmup around Battersea park this evening and it was offset and then for the race and Cooldown it was fixed.

  • The same shift appeare on my routes today, June 28!

All the paths I have traveled today appear to have been translated north-east by about 300 meters.

it would be very advisable for Garmin to provide us with an explanation and a solution to the problem.

  • Hi, this article is well written and describe the problem and gives some workaround. https://mightygadget.co.uk/garmin-gps-accuracy-issue-caused-by-expired-cpe-january-2021/

This is how you can fix the 300 meters Offset on your device:

    "

if you go to System > About and CPE shows Expired, please give 5 full minutes outdoors with no movement to see if your CPE file will update for you to CURRENT.

Even if this doesn't fix the CPE you should allow the watch to GPS soak to receive a full satellite fix. This means to wait for an additional 2-5 minutes after the device reads GPS ready.

    "

I don't understand if the bugged tracks will be fixed and if not, how we can fix them. Any news about that?

  • I have this issue with mine since this morning as well. I connected with Garmin support via chat and sent them the garmin folder from my device, so hopefully they can find something based on that. I know someone mentioned the CPE, but mine already shows as Current and I still have the problem.

  • My problem is even worse, since the update my route is not accurate at all, turns and straight lines in any place, a complete disaster

  • It's not a GLONASS issue. I'm running GPS-only and still experience this issue.
