Treadmill calibration not working

Went for a run on the treadmill today with my Forerunner 245.  I noticed at the 1mile mark that the watch was reading 0.7 so I stopped the activity and calibrated it to 1.0 miles.  I ran another 1.6 miles at my watch was reading 0.7 or something.  When I went to calibrate it, I actually could only calibrate to 1.5 (the 1st decimal point only went 0 to 0.5), which I did.  THen I ran for another 0.6 miles and the watch still said 0.25.  It seems like the calibration actually got WORSE each time I entered in the treadmill distance.

  • I dont know about the second link.  if nothing updates on the watch to make future treadmill runs more accurate, then the watch is worse than useless on the treadmill.  The calibration only changed the distance on my watch. When it was uploaded to Garmin, it was the uncalibrated distance.

    Anyway, I emailed Garmin support.

    thanks

  • This seems to be fixed now.  I reset the watch (Reset Default Settings) and also upgraded to 2.82.  After that I recalibrated the treadmill on my next run on the subsequent run came out OK.  I assume it was the Reset Default Setting and not the firmware that did the trick.

  • Maybe  it broke again.  I consistently get 60% of my treadmill distance on my watch.  I have calibrated after each run, but nothing changes.  My 920 was pretty damn close to perfect.  245 sucks!

As DC Rainmaker said, Garmin's biggest competitor is its inept software team.  They are the new Microsoft.  They're the defacto standard and therefore everywhere.  They try to do everything, but they only do it ok.  They have enough bugs and shortcoming that they drive their customers crazy, but they do enough to keep us coming back...for now.

check your step length on Garmin Connect Web and Garmin Connect Mobile

    happy and save sporting

  • AVG. Stride length for outdoor run 1.01 meters.  0.56 on treadmill.  (seems to follow what I'm seeing)

I changed on garmin connect, but it says for walking.

Not sure if it will help with treadmill run, but I guess we'll find out.  I would think/hope that calibrating after each run would 'fix' this, but I guess I'm foolish for thinking that.

    others say it works

when it would work it could only update the stride length in the watch or via Garmin Connect Mobile

what it does when you enter a value, is only recalculates the summary, not the complete activity

success with the update and sync procedure

    happy & safe sporting

@OnlyTwo. FYI your suggestion is useless. I just did a run outdoors with GPS and Running dynamics pod, I noted the stride length reported, the modified the stride length on the Garmin Connect mobile, then synchronized. I wet then on the TM and have another run also with the Running dynamics pod, and the result IS; The watch still reports always 60-65% of the distance, obviously all other values, speed pace etc. are off Of course calibration saving DOES NOT work

BTW Only Two, do you own a FR245? Cause you seem to give a lot of advises, Or you are working for Garmin? And want to calm down the users

    Unhappy sporting for me....
