HRM Dual stops working mid way through activity

I’ve had my HRM dual stop transmitting heart rate one and half hours into an activity. I know I have a new battery installed. It’s done this a few times already and very frustrating. I move it around and it starts transmission again but a very low heart rate and after few minutes stops transmitting. Anyone with similar experience. Thank you

  • My HRM Dual stopped working after washing the strap for the first time. Putting dielectric grease (from auto parts store) on the snap contacts seems to have resolved the issue. Thanks to someone on another forum. Wonder if there was grease from the factory that washed off?

  • I have the same problem with an HRM dual. Started after I changed the battery (and washed the strap but that  was hardly the first time I washed it). After a pause I either get no reading at all or an artificially low heart rate like 50-70 during a run. And it does not get back to normal after I get more sweaty again.

It seems to happen more frequently when I get really sweaty. Therefore, one idea is that is related to that moisture/sweat gets into the sensor and causes it to malfunction. However, I have opened it multiple times, done the battery reset and made sure that the rubber thing looks OK and sits right. Still happens. Should test the dielectric grease though.

  • Garmin replaced my HRM Dual, but within a few weeks I had encountered the same issue (poor connectivity to no signal at all).  I use a row erg, so I sweat profusely which I believe contributes to the problem.

I was forced to go with a different manufacturer which eliminated the problem.  I thank Garmin for their support but believe the HRM Dual is a defective product.
