HRM-Pro Plus no Respiration Rate, pulse at least 20-30 beats higher

After the running activity I found that there was no Respiration Rate recorded, the pulse was at least 20-30 higher than normal. When I went uphill, the pulse rate dropped, but when I ran downhill, the pulse rate increased. I felt good the whole time. Absolutely ridiculous. My pulse is 99% between 120 and 140 when the heart rate monitor is working fine. The battery is new and the watch is an Enduro 2. I wonder why this is happening? I wouldn't write here but it happens to me very often. A colleague who has had an HRM-Tri (+Fenix 6x) for a few years has no problems.

  • No. Not joke.

It's why I don't wear it on all run workouts now Pensive and I really want to wear it on all workouts.

But the spike n drops mess up my data too much

  • Unbelievable.....so many people here with same problems and no solution....

  • Hi

I am suffering the same issue using HRM-Pro Plus with a FR965

The band desconnects from time to time in the middle of the workout (or the race!) and then le reading of the Heart Rate is not consistent. I supose that the watch sensor is backing to have some readings. When this happens the respiration rate has no data

Firmware is the latest for each device and battery is OK

    Any news?

  • No update at all.  It appears Garmin is ignoring this issue Pensive

  • I'm glad to read all the similar experience in this thread.  I had the same problem with two HRM Pro Plus.  Missing breathing, spikes in HR.  Went back to my ancient HRM-Tri and no issues.

  • Same problem for me, after the first training with a new HRM-Pro Plus I have inconsintent HR data (too low) and very big gaps in the respiration graph. Any solution? I have to return it?

  • I have HRMPRO+ and 965 and dont have that issue,  I have another issues which is jagged HR recordings but that seems to be not related to this from what I can see.  May be worth speaking to Garmin support via Chat/Call/email as they are generally helpful.

Also have you tried the reverse battery swap method to reset the HRM?

Also after that remove it completely fromdevice and re-pair it.

  • Please follow the steps below to perform a Reverse Polarity on your Sensor / HRM – this will reset the module and allow connection with your head unit;

    • Take the battery out, and flip it over and insert it back into the  HRM to reverse the polarity
    • Hold it in there for 5 - 10 seconds
    • This will reset the HRM strap
    • Then remove the old battery and install the new battery properly.
    • Ensure the module is fixed to the strap correctly. (only applicable to HRM’s with removable module)
    • If using a HRM, wet the electrodes on the strap & position it on your body securely as per the user manual instructs.
    • Perform 5-10 start jumps to get your heart rate up & commence the pairing process.

You may be required to follow the pairing steps for each sensor after battery replacement as per user manual instruction.

  • Unfortunately that doesn't resolve the respiration data randomly go  missing (then  heart rate either spikes or drops during no respiration data period)

I have tried everything! New battery, took it out for 9+ hours before our it back , reverse polarity , and re-pair strap after each attempt .

Even two watches! (epix gen 2 , epix 2 pro 51mm)

This tells me the problem is the strap and not my watches.

It is crazy I can't count on the strap for all my workouts, especially vo2max run workouts!

The elevat 5 on pro 51mm(even with lag during fast sprints ) is actually outperforming my hrm pro plus.

I am using hrm pro plus a lot less now due to the unreliability and I don't want it to mess up my training metrics with random hr spike or drop.

Really disappointed Disappointed as I want to wear the strap on all workouts.

Been thinking  about getting a polar hw9 or h10 but still waiting to see if Garmin can resolve this problem.(paid $130 with tax!)

  • Still suffering the same issue at every Workout...

HRM Pro + gets disconnected (you can see the lack of respiration information) and then the FR965 changes to optical sensor (which is very inaccurate) to measure HR.

See the spikes in HR I got today

I've been upgrading the Fw at every update. Now the sensor v8.8 and the RF965 v18.27 but nothing changes

I use the same sensor when I ride my bike but then it is linked to the Edge 530 and I have no connectivity issues

Nobody is concerned at GARMIN about this issue been reported for months?
