What's going on with the footpod availability?

The "classic" Garmin Foot Pod (Garmin 010-11092-00) has been unavailable and removed from the Garmin website for 1 or 2 months now. (I am talking about the classic foot pod, NOT the RD waist pod!)

I know that there are rumors of a new Foot Pod model but these rumors have been around since July (more than half a year ago) and there is still nothing. Now you can't even buy any foot pod anymore from Garmin for one or two months.

I want to buy a/the Garmin Foot Pod for more accurate treadmill running.

What's the stance or comment from Garmin on this? They just remove a product from their lineup and don't release any replacement for several months?

  • This is really unbelievable, to leave consumers for more than a year without Foot PoD. What they are offering to more accurate readings is bunch of advices and then they also say on their web site that we should buy foot pod?!?!?

I have put 2 good Garmin Watches and was running same time with them. I advise you all not to do it since you will be deeply disappointedRunning with 2 Garmin watches... unbelievable into Garmin accuracy like I am now...

  • Were you using GPS on both ?

    Something Wrong There.

Yesterday I ran FR35 VS Strava App for Android and the Difference was 10 Meters only on 5.5 Km.

  • It's not just Garmin.  Any watch has no idea at all about how fast you're running on a treadmill.  It has one data input, cadence and I know my cadence can be very similar at a whole range of different paces.  Its essentially guessing.  All calibration does is tell it what to assume for a given cadence which only works if you only run at the same pace every time on the treadmill.

Back to the thread.  I would happily spend money on a Stryd type pod for upto about $150.and have been periodically stalking the site just in case. 90% of my uses will be for treadmill / zwift and I'm deeply skeptical about whether running by estimated power brings anything extra to the table vs HR.

  • It has one data input, cadence

Not only cadence. Most recent garmin watches also use built-in accelerometer data to determine pace. It is a very indirect method and can be inaccurate in some circumstances, but it's still beter than cadence alone.

  • Even the instant pace on the street without foot pod works very badly, I just bought the Zwift run pod which is nothing but the Milestone foot pod, it works great and costs only 44 euros in Europe, with that you solve all the problems.

  • I’d like to refresh this thread to determine if anyone has had any luck finding an original foot pod?  I’ve scoured the Internet and found a handful of new originals new for $120+ and very few (2) used.  This is the same story for the alternative Timex foot pod which is the next best thing.  Has anyone heard anything from Garmin in the recent past or found a cost effective alternative?

  • Look for Adidas Micoach Speedcell, for example this one:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/125052534152?hash=item1d1db63d88:g:jNsAAOSwf5lhuTUJ

It's the same hardware as the original garmin sdm4, only branded differently. Please be aware, that the adidas footpod comes in two flavors: ANT+ and BLE, so before purchase make sure you know which one you need and which one is offered by the seller.

  • OK, yet another bump. Any news on Foot Pod? Or any compatible devices? I tried to find suggested Adidas miCoach Speed Cell but without any luck...
