bug: no way to set elevation unit on vivoactive 5

Looks like Garmin forgot about elevation unit settings, 'cause it's missing from both the on-device system settings and the settings via Garmin Connect.

  • I dont think the vivoactive 5 has the ability to record altitude changes (even though it shows if you use gps, but i think that's guesswork from map data).

Annoying because it means no altitude badges, but yeah, no altimeter on this device

  • So maybe it's intentional that there is no elevation unit setting, BUT it's inconsistent with other devices that don't have barometer either. For example in fr55 there's only 1 general setting for units. My son set it to metric, and indeed the CIQ code that looks for DeviceSettings.elevationUnits gets metric, so apps do display the elevation in metric.

On va5 Garmin added separate units for distance, temperature, etc, but not for elevation. And there's no global default, so it just returns elevationUnit to be imperial :(

  • Ahh okay, yeah I see what you mean now. Maybe there is a setting in the app that lets you change it individually? But yeah, that is annoying that it isn't consistent
