Vivoactive 4 battery drain after update to 5.80

The green sensor(HR sensor i think)  glows continuously. The battery lasts only two to three days if there is no activity like running or walking...

I believe this is a minor bug in the code that can be corrected quickly. Garmin developers please check this and fix it :)

  • Yes I would turn it off completely.

I see battery lasting ~5 days again with it completely off.

  • are you using a vivoactive 4 or 4s?
    In my case it's a 4s.

I'll check with the light completely off.

  • Ugh... looks as if you were right. From yesterday afternoon up to now i could see that the battery drain was only half compared to that with the other settings. But only with the backlight set complete to off, just turning off the wrist-move backlight did not reduce the power consumption.

So the backlight setting seems to really make a difference.

  • I have a 4.

    Thanks for testing!

  • hey , I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or not but I had higher than usual drain too and first I thought to attribute it to that battery widget you've recommended, so I've removed it, but the drain still was seemingly higher than usual and the only different thing was that I travelling and walking a lot. And instead of my usual 3-7k steps a day I've got like 20k even if I didn't started any activity.

So I wonder how many steps do you have and do you have Move IQ enabled? I believe that as long as you start walking it launch GPS and start tracking your activity and then if it goes longer than a set threshold, in my case it's 10 minutes, you'll get a full-fledged activity tracking started and you'll get a track for those first 10 minutes too...
So unless you really need Move IQ maybe it's worth to turn it off? Maybe that's the explanation why some people have way higher battery drain then the rest? Just a thought... Maybe it will be useful for someone.

  • yes, Move IQ is enabled here. But i saw the battery drain even when just sitting behind a table for an afternoon.

(or when sleeping during the night). So i don't think it is MoveIQ.

  • ah well, then it must be something else, I just thought that it's worth to check whenever you're more active than me and that results in higher battery drain due to MoveIQ.
