Vivoactive 4 battery drain after update to 5.80

The green sensor(HR sensor i think)  glows continuously. The battery lasts only two to three days if there is no activity like running or walking...

I believe this is a minor bug in the code that can be corrected quickly. Garmin developers please check this and fix it :)

  • Hello , do you have any information about it ?

    Thank you very much !

  • I have pinned down the feature that drains battery on my VA4s 5.80. The backlight setting drains unnecessarily.

When I have the entire Backlight setting completely disabled, the battery lasts 7 days with no need to charge. When I have the backlight setting enabled, with brightness at 0% and the gesture disabled, the battery drains to down to 10% over the course of 5 hours. This happens both during the day and at night (with sleep tracking enabled).

Feel free to reach out if I can help debug this in any way.

  • I think there’s something to this, as I noticed when I have the backlight on, on gesture, the drain is slower. If I have the backlight on, but at 0% (this is what I normally have it as, so the option is there to turn it on via shortcut if I want), it drains quicker.

That being said - I can see on my watch face that the heart rate is taken every second instead of every minute, so I believe it’s the “high power mode” causing the issue, but perhaps it’s stuck in high power mode due to the backlight.

I’ve turned the backlight off fully in settings now and will see how long the battery lasts. I’m also happy to help with providing logs again.

  • 100% the backlight for me. I tested with different watch faces and other features on or off, but the backlight (specifically at night) was the biggest draw. I could have the backlight set to 0% with Bluetooth off and the screen locked and it would still eat 30%+ every night on its own. Turn it off and even with a fancy CIQ watch face (Enduro by Ershovlad) and Bluetooth turned on, I was only losing around 5% battery drained each night.

  • This is my experience so far today too.

I use the SHN TxD face, and with the backlight off it’s behaving as it should - no heart rate update every second. No abnormal battery drain.

  • Great finding! I was expecting backlight to be disabled when set to 0. As I can see now disabling backlight stops activating watches for every touch and keeping watchface in active mode what drains battery faster.

    Thanks!

  • I am not disputing this May be the case with the higher drain issues some people are having. Maybe when combined with 3rd party watch face. However, I have tried this today and still losing approx 1.25% an hour with stock watch face and backlight turned off.

  • Just to add… that’s 1.25% an hour day at my desk.

  • Sat at my desk even
