Vivoactive 4 battery drain after update to 5.80

The green sensor(HR sensor i think)  glows continuously. The battery lasts only two to three days if there is no activity like running or walking...

I believe this is a minor bug in the code that can be corrected quickly. Garmin developers please check this and fix it :)

  • Looks like issue is caused by: "fixed an issue with Connect IQ watch faces not entering high power on gesture" as in my case (locked screen) just simple touch switch watchface to high power mode and never revert it back. I need to press any buttons to activate "Locked" picture and then watchface  is switched back to low power mode.

Any way to report it as bug?

  • It was already reported and is still open in developer forum:

    https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/i/bug-reports/battery-drain-issues-on-va4-and-4s-using-ciq-watch-faces-since-sw-5-10-release

Looks like the "fix" made it worse for all other people.

  • Hello AmberD, i did what you said to do, sync than power button for 45 secs. After thar i used third party watchface and battery drain continued...Next day i did soft reset again but now using Garmin watchface and there was no battery drain. Again i tried another third party wf but from another developer, same happens, battery drain.
I want to be able to use other watchfaces.

Shoud i report to developers who made those watchfaces or Garmin has to consider this?

  • Hey there! If the 3rd party watch faces are draining the device battery when installed, yes. I encourage you to do so.

  • same issue here... last night the battery drained from above 60% in the evening to a power off during the night/sleep.

  • I had this exact same problem. Garmin kindly exchanged my watch - but I'm still convinced it's a software issue.
Trying the new one today so we'll see how fast it drains!

  • Hey Amber, I did a factory reset after noticing my battery was draining quite quickly. After reinstalling my Enduro CiQ watch face, I logged the battery percentages with the Bluetooth and PulseOx turned off and the backlight set to 0% while turned on. I locked the watch while sleeping to prevent accidental sleep touches from starting anything.

100% 11:05 am May 20th - Taken off the charger
    85% 12:56 am May 21st
    54% 7:44 am May 21st
    51% 10:35 am May 21st
    45% 5:31 pm May 21st
    40% 11:13 pm May 21st
    10% 8:00 am May 22nd

Given how little the battery drains during the day compared to the night, I doubt it's the watch face, but I'll rerun the test with a stock watch face so I can be certain.

  • Same issue, goes from full to 8% in about one and a half days. Before it would last 7-8 days

  • I have same experience after upgrade FW to 5.80. I used 3rd party watch faces and compare it with older model vivoactive3 and my battery was drained after 2 days. Vivoactive3 with same 3rd party watch face has 60% of battery. Now I am trying to use garmin watch face but this is not solution.

please refer this to developers. Users wants also use 3rd party watch faces as befor 5.80.

  • Good Luck with that... They replaced my device too & the new one is worse than the old ! Considering everything was fine with 5.60 & it now isn't with 5.80 what else can it be Shrug‍♂️Shrug‍♂️

They've suggested sending logs etc again but having done that once & being advised a replacement device with new pack number was the answer. I am now worse off so I doubt the credibility of any device given.
