Vivoactive 4 Battery Drain

Since the recent software update to 5.6 my battery lasts for less than 4 days. it was initially atleast 6 days. I do not have any app/fancy watch face. I mostly use Garmin for steps tracking and heart rate. I dont know what in recent update is causing this battery drain. it seems to be getting worse. is anyone else facing this issue?

  • I am sure Garmin could do it if they built a new operating system and wanted this feature, but my point is that I doubt their current operating system is built that way. If I am right, they can not offer this feature without rebuilding the operating system.

  •  in fact, Garmin does have a feature to track how much time is spent on running particular function e.g. wrist detection, backlight, searching for sensors, wifi, GPS and many more. Very useful for debugging and understanding your watch actually. it's done as a widget but there is a caveat, it's available only on beta version, I wanted to keep it actually but once my watch was updated to 5.80 it's gone Disappointed

Maybe there is a way to extract and install it from the previous beta firmware but I'm not sure as didn't have a time to try it. Anyway maybe if we ask Garmin can provide us with that widget for the debugging?

  • I often have battery drain issues after updates... Usually it goes away like this:

Restart watch by holding down the upper button

After restart, start an exercise with GPS... Wait for GPS fix, start recording, end recording... You can discard that exercise.

    Restart again

... Dont know if its the gps, gyro or maybe the barometer thats maybe not integrating correctly after updates, but this worked for me already 5 or 6 times.

  • I have the same issues, since the update my watch is dead in  days instead of 5-7 days. Im located in Belgium, can you send me contact information?

  • Same here... Green sensor flashes all the time. Battery lasts only 3 days. Before update it was up to 10 days.

  • since the update my watch is dead in 2 days instead of 5-7 days.*

  • I just wanted to say that the suggested fix of LeaLoewin worked for me:

"I often have battery drain issues after updates... Usually it goes away like this:

Restart watch by holding down the upper button

After restart, start an exercise with GPS... Wait for GPS fix, start recording, end recording... You can discard that exercise.

Watch is stable for almost a week now.

Maybe give it a try, thanks Lea and shame on Garmin for delivering such buggy Updates and not caring about a real solution.

  • Well my replacement watch arrived. I installed the third party face I love (SHN TxD) and it was working beautifully again - UNTIL I downloaded 5.80.

Then the battery drain started happening again. 25%-50% lost at night. I really don’t know what to do anymore.

  • Try this solution of LeaLoewin out:

"I often have battery drain issues after updates... Usually it goes away like this:

Restart watch by holding down the upper button

After restart, start an exercise with GPS... Wait for GPS fix, start recording, end recording... You can discard that exercise.

I had to do this 2 times already but it fixed my problem each time.

Garmin doesn't care. I bet they didn't even inform the developers about this issue or they don't have any possibility to do so.

Only real solution is to buy another watch next time.
