Vivoactive 4 Battery Drain

Since the recent software update to 5.6 my battery lasts for less than 4 days. it was initially atleast 6 days. I do not have any app/fancy watch face. I mostly use Garmin for steps tracking and heart rate. I dont know what in recent update is causing this battery drain. it seems to be getting worse. is anyone else facing this issue?

  • I discovered what my issue is - and this is an issue only since 5.80.

    When I tap my screen (gesture) it goes into HighPowerMode and does not come out of it, so it does not return to LowPowerMode. This means the screen is updating every second which drains the battery.

    Definitely a bug that needs fixing by Garmin!

  • i have tried everything resetting the settings, syncing and charging it to a laptop, creating a new garmin account, etc... my battery only lasts half a day....i only noticed this issue a few weeks ago...where do i go from here?  Can I get a refund on this watch I got 6 months ago?

  • What you say is interesting, and it appears that's not the first time that Garmin has an issue with this mode. Never happened before on my watch but since 5.8 update, it's a pain.

    I'm hope they'll do something next week when they are back to work.

  • Hi , I recently bought my VA4 and love them but battery life is really lower than advertised on the site, I specially checked with support before buying them. And there are a lot of people who have problems with it too, maybe Garmin can consider adding battery saver feature to configure better what features we need and which we not more easily? just like all Fenixes, Forerunners and Venu 2 have?

    That's something I expect from any smart watches to have these days and not something to reserve for higher-end models.

    If such request exists already can you add my vote for it please?

  • I happen to have a Fenix 6S Pro for testing here as well and I can content the battery life of the Fenix 6S isn't that great either.

    Smartwatch mode battery time is essentially: connected with the phone, but not doing anything. Avery notification or every interaction with the watch will shorten the battery time. This is unfortunate, but it is like it is...

  • This has been happening to me after the 5.80 update. Battery drain was at ~0.5%/hr and now is ridiculous at ~3.5-4%/hr. I'm having to charge my watch everyday as it's dead by the morning. 

    I've tried turning it off and on (didn't work), factory reset (didn't work) and using a stock watch face (didn't work). Hopefully there's a fix for it soon as I absolutely love my watch but can't use it when I need to because it's dead.

    Not sure if this is related but sometimes my heart rate sensor becomes stuck (solid green light) rather than blinking. Located in Vancouver, BC.
