Garmin Vivoactive 4s not recording golf as an activity.

My Garmin vivoactive 4s is inconsistently tracking golf. More often than not the activity just does not upload to my calendar - maybe one in three rounds will load - but the rest, none. My scorecard appears and I can see the activity on my Garmin Connect screen - but on my calendar, nothing. In fact it just shows it as walking.

I am pretty active on Strava so it is incredibly frustrating when I can't log the activity and get accurate data on either platforms.

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this? All my stat recording is turned on, etc.

  • Please can I be added to this case. Had the watch less than a month and it’s pretty disappointing that this happens

  • I'm also having this same problem. I just upgraded from a Vivoactive 3 to the Captain Mavel watch and it no longer will record a round of golf as an activity in the Connect App. It will upload my scorecard to the Golf App. The only solution I've found to work is that I have to restart my iPhone and my watch right before I'm about to play and that doesn't even work half the time. It's very annoying to have to restart my devices just so it'll record the round as an activity. All other activities seem to record to the app just fine. Are there any updates on a solution to this?

  • The last 2 golf rounds recorded activity - one with 6.02 and one with 6.05. Though, previous 3 or 4 rounds had not recorded as activity with 6.02. Now, there is a 6.10 release that does not mention golf improvements. -sigh-

  • Hey all! I certainly understand the frustration this is causing some of you. I wanted to let you all know we are still working on this and I hope to have an update soon. We appreciate your patience as we work through this.

  • Please add me to the case if you still need more data, but 6 months seems like a ridiculously long time for a bug fix.  Is anyone actually working on this?  This post is becoming an advertisement for us to switch to another smart watch brand...

  • we are almost a month further and it is/remains suspiciously quiet from Garmin. When will this problem finally be solved?

  • I picked up my Vivoactive 4 (standard version, so hope this is the correct forum for me as well) the other week and had it out for a few rounds. The scorecard is uploaded properly but so far I haven't seen any activity (mapping the walking distance, heart rate etc.) for any of the rounds. Before I've been using a Vivoactive 3 for the better part of this season and as far as I can remember I always got both the scorecard as well as the activity uploaded when using the Vivoactive 3.

Another difference I've noticed on the Vivoactive 4 compared to the Vivoactive 3 is that I have to manually enter the menu and finialize the round, regardless if I've played 9-holes only or a full 18-hole round. With the Vivoactive 3 I got the summary of the result so far, and whether or not if I wanted to end the round or continue. Likewise for holing out on the 18th, the summary showed up with the option to end the round etc. Not sure if that's an expected difference or part of the issue.

Regardless I kind of liked getting the summary up after the 9th and 18th hole respectively and an easy way to actually finish the round. What about the rest of you, do you ever get this on your devices? Or is this feature actually removed/disabled on the Vivoactive 4/s? Or is there an option to enabled this somehow?

  • This keeps happening to me as well but works on my partners iPhone/Garmin/Strava fine. Is it a settings thing?

  •  Are you still working on this and need more input I'd gladly help where I can.

After reading the complete thread (again) it seems like there's a lot of focus on the syncing of the watch and the Garmin Connect app, though I've made the observation that when no activity is found in the Garmin Connect app, there's no Activity on the watch either. So to me it sounds more like a saving of the activity rather than a syncing issue. When it works, and for other activities like running etc, you can see the last activity and a summary of the last week etc. directly on the watch. When it works the golf activity shows there in the history, and when it does not work it does not show.

Another thing which a lot of people have been trying as workaround is to restart the watch before a round. I've not actively tried it myself, but when I was using a Vivoactive 3 for tracking golf that wasn't my primary device. It was for most of the time turned off and only started once it was time heading out to the course. Not sure if that had anything to do with it I only know it worked every time on that device.

Also, I miss the automatic summary after each 9 holes played saying the score and giving the option to end or continue the round etc. Not sure why that is not happening on my Vivoactive 4, if it was a design decision to remove it, I'd really like to see an option for enabling it. Pray

  • Just to remind everyone on how unacceptable this is, I note that I first opened a ticket on this on July 11, 2020 - almost 14 months now. Golf is the primary activity that I do on my watch (now that I purchased an Edge for cycling). I am -REALLY- frustrated.
