battery life issue

Got my V4 3-4 months ago. No issues. Through the summer used it daily, almost 24/7. Besides daily exercise, I was monitoring my sleep patterns. Five or more days before charge.

A week or two ago there was an upgrade. Seems that since then, battery lasts less than 24hrs. So, really recent issue.

I've seen a lot of info from a year ago. This seems new.

Help please.

  • The VA4S is my first Garmin device and I believe I still have some faith left, or at least trying to stay on the positive/constructive side.

You said you have been talking with multiple users. Could you please elaborate a bit on what makes you think this is something that should be reported to watch face developers, and not considering the possibility that SW 5.10 introduced the battery regression?

Looking at the SW 5.10 changelog, there's one listed change that could significantly explain the battery issues:

    • Fixed gesture handling for CIQ watch faces

Everything else mentioned in the changelog sounds unrelated but of course I have no idea how accurate is that changelog anyway (there might have been other fixes/improvements that affect watch faces not mentioned).

Is there a remote chance you can still find out whether this change could have triggered the abnormal battery usage on CIQ watch faces? Even better, could the 5.10 changes related to gesture handling be reverted in a BETA release? I am sure you will not be short of BETA users. Thank you!

Totally agree. please give us your feedback!

  • Thank you all for your feedback on this topic. We understand the frustration you are experiencing, please know we are working on a resolution and the case regarding the battery drain has been escalated and I will provide any updates or feedback I am given as soon as I can.

    Thank you !!

  • I just got my watch yesterday, fully charged it, and had to charge it up today already. So I'm commenting to stay in the loop of this issue. Makes the watch fairly unusable.

  • Thank you for giving us some hope!

"the case regarding the battery drain when using CIQ watch faces has been escalated".

If you are creating a ticket in an internal issue tracker, or passing the information around, please make sure that it is clear that the battery drain issues are observed when a Connect IQ watch face (most likely any CIQ watch face) is in use.

Sorry if I'm pushing too much, but nobody wants to be in a situation where QA specialists or software engineers are not able to experience battery issues just because they are using a stock watch face for their tests. They will be frustrated because they are not able to reproduce the issue and we'll get frustrated too because we cannot use CIQ faces unless we recharge the watch every 2 days.

    Thanks!

  • Regarding the theory that this issue could be caused by "fixed" gesture handling for CIQ watch faces, have any of you who experience battery issues with these watch faces at night tried to disable gestures?

  • Please add me to the ticket Garmin-AmberD.  I communicated this issue via chat and email many weeks ago and have yet received an update after numerous requests for a status. Thanks!

  • Hi Garmin-AmberD. Please add me into the ticket list. Thanks
