battery life issue

Got my V4 3-4 months ago. No issues. Through the summer used it daily, almost 24/7. Besides daily exercise, I was monitoring my sleep patterns. Five or more days before charge.

A week or two ago there was an upgrade. Seems that since then, battery lasts less than 24hrs. So, really recent issue.

I've seen a lot of info from a year ago. This seems new.

Help please.

  • Hi thanks for helping us with this. Please add me to the ticket

  • Hello, are you experiencing this battery drain with the use of downloaded watch faces?

  • Hi , can you please add me to the ticket too. I thought the problem was solved for me, but to bad it wasn't. 2 weeks without any problems, but yesterday I've charged the watch to 100% and today there is only 14% left....

  • OK, after further looking into this and talking with multiple users If any one is using downloaded watch faces and the device battery is draining from the watch faces we will need you to report that feedback to the developers of the watch faces.

If your device is not using the downloaded watch faces but the device is still experiencing the battery drain we can add to the case and I can grab your Garmin Folder.

Is anyone using the M2 watchface? Or are you guys experiencing the battery drain without the CIQ watchfaces?

As I wrote myself in the M2 watchface thread:

"I also tried two popular Connect IQ watchfaces and I got similar (bad) results compared to stock, even when stripping away many features."

The two CIQ watchfaces I tried were Rails and Crystal.

Honestly, I fail to understand why we should report battery drains to the CIQ watch face developers. The battery drain comes from the SW 5.10 release as many users have reported. Downgrading to the previous release fixes the battery drains.

I totally agree. And besides, what is to be told to the developers so they would know what to do to fix it?

  • Why am I not surprised.... Typical Garmin response. Much along the line that I got, "under further investigation and internal testing we've not discovered any issues" or "we've not heard any reports with these issues" etc. Crack team of engineers.

  • As much as I love my watch (when it works properly), I cannot continue to support this company. Every single 'update' is littered with bugs. My first garmin watch was the va3 which had plenty of issues, but I chalked some of it up to hardware bugs (altimeter) out bad CIQ apps. Then I foolishly bought this watch when it came out thinking it would be better, but every other update borks one thing or another. Us waiting for over 2 months for a fix for something that is clearly related to the 5.10 drop is unacceptable.

Dcrainmaker even wrote an article a while back about garmin's ineptitude when it comes to software. I should have taken that as a warning. When someone like him posts articles like that you know there are issues.

  • Yeah, absolutely. I'm not not buying a Garmin product again. I've not owned a single Garmin watch, bike computer or other device that hasn't caused issues. I've had a forerunner replaced twice for water damage and I was told not to even shower with the thing by the agents here, as if I was an idiot thinking that showers are fine when the watch has 50m depth rating. My 1 year old EDGE 530 is developing an uneven display colour due to "high use in the sun outdoors". Amongst all the other software quirks introduced by "updates" .Is 11000km outside use too much for a bike computer before the screen gets damaged by UV? Etc. Yeah. The VA4 was a naive purchase on my part. I regret it and I won't be buying any more Garmin products.
