Bluetooth music and GPS fail

Hi,

I own my VA 4S for some months now. Lately I have a lot of problems with the bluetooth pairing with my headphones (galaxy buds)

First I want to say I tested the galaxy buds with lots of other devices and all software is up to date (both bluetooth headphones and the VA 4S). The problem is not with the bluetooth headphones.

The following - very frustrating - problem occurs:

1) I start my music/podcast before the run.
2) I start a run - VA4S looking for GPS ----> bluetooth get's cut off
3) trying to start music/bluetooth again --> can't find the headphones anymore!!

Tried stopping the run, can't find the headphones anymore.
After restarting watch I try again: same three steps occur.

Starting music when run already started: can't find bluetooth headphones.

I tried:
- testing the galaxy buds: they work with other devises perfectly
- software update on the Garmin watch: no update available
- restarting the VA4S: nope

I had the same problem a few weeks ago, a software update from Garmin fixed this issue instantly.

Looking for help as I'm about to throw the Garmin watch through the window.

Kind regards,

I had the same problem. For me the solution was to completely reset the watch (Settings -> System -> Reset).

This suggestion came from the garmin support. I contacted them after I had also tried a bunch of things (restarting the watch, checking for updates, unpair and re-pair everything, ...)

Currently my watch is working fine.

  • This worked, thanks.

too bad it’s the only solution. Now i need to install all my songs again..

Garmin , vas a hacer algo?

Yo no puedo devolver el reloj, y me gustaria hacerlo , hace muchas cosas la mayoria mal

    Glad I could help.

But it could be that it only helps once. Today I wanted to go running and ran (haha) into the same problem again. The watch just plainly refused to connect to my headphones. I fear one has to reset the watch each time after doing an activity with bluetooth headphones .....

Haven't tested it yet. I am still unsure whether I should contact support again or go back to plan A and smash the watch so I can buy a new one ......

  • If I have to reset every time I'm done with Garmin. So far so good here.

Unfortunatly it seems my suspicions were correct. After a watch reset the bluetooth pairing with my headphones works fine. After the first activity, regardless if with or without headphones, it does not work and I have to completely reset the watch again.

I will write another support ticket...

This issue aside -let's assume that Garmin will fix this- do you recommend Vivoactive 4 for a Galaxy Buds owner? I read some reviews that Garmin devices don't have very good bluetooth connection and when you run and turn on gps, then you hear some crackling sounds.

My main requirement is to play local music from my smartwatch with my Galaxy Buds and do some running while gps is on. Is Vivoactive 4 a good device for this?

The alternative that I could go for is Galaxy Watch Active 2. It pairs amazingly well with my Note 10+ however I don't like the 2 day battery life.

    Appreciate your input!

  • This was posted and worked for me.  Different headphones Jabra Elite but probably same issue. I have a VivoActive and it worked for me:

Solved. The issue was that FR945 identifies JEA as a footpod (FP).

    Solution:

    * Remove "FP Jabra..." under "Sensors and..." (I also removed and reinstalled the "no-FP" JEA)

    * When you go to activities FR945 will ask you to add "FP Jabra...". Just say no.

Now it works like a charm.
