VA4 Battery drain after SW 3.80

Just updated to SW 3.80 recently. Now I notice that my Vivoactive 4 is leaking battery like crazy, like 30% per day without doing any activity compare to 10-15% per day previously.

Anyone experiencing this issue with SW 3.80?

  • Battery seems the same for me compared to 3.6 Although it's hard to compare it 1:1 because now I power it off for the night to avoid blank sleep recordings and I reboot it after each activity to avoid hr blinking.

  • I spoke with Garmin Tech Support today and they asked me to power down (restart) the device.  Instead of the short push on the top button ("A") and selecting the power button in the circular menu as I had performed in the past to "turn it off then on", I was asked to hold the top button ("A") for about 15 seconds, (keep holding when the Request Assistance message appears) until the screen goes dark.   Pushing the same button again causes it to restart, as indicated by a green triangle at first.   The manual describes this as a 'restart'.

The rate that the battery is discharging seems to have decreased.   I will keep monitoring it to see if it seems back to normal.

  • I tried this. Fully charged last night before restarting. 20 hours later I’m down to 60% already. This really sucks!

Same! I have tried everything I can think of but it seems worse when I am asleep. Spo2 is off and it goes into dnd but somehow i average 30-40% drain overnight.

  • My watch got after restart better. Before had battery drain for 10% in sleep (Spo2 was activated during sleep) and 40% in 24h total(no gps usage or training). Yesterday charged it fully and made restart as described here before. Now woke up and after 8h of sleep got 8% battery drain. 1% in an hour. Spo2 was activated during sleep. Will see, how it will behave during the day with no Spo2 activated. Edit: Nope, Garmin has not fixed the issue.

  • At first it looked that it helped. But in reality it's not. My watch is now on 36h of working. In that time I had Spo2 measurments working in sleep time. and yesterday had swam in pool for 35 minutes. And 18 minutes of walking with GPS. And now I have 56% battery left. It's Apple Watch 3 battery level, not VA4 battery level. To be honest, it's the worst Garmin device I have ever had (not only battery drain what is wrong with this watch). I am going to try to give it back to the shop or selling it.

same here... battery life only 2,5-3 days since like days - was up to 10 days before, didn't change any use...

  • Is there anyone from Garmin reading this?

Good job Garmin now I feel like having an apple watch (in terms of battery life) I have to recharge it almost daily....

My 3-year-old VAHR could get 7 days easily. I’m hoping Garmin get a class action lawsuit if they continue to mess up with their products like this...

I have the same problem. Battery only lasts 2 days. And before the update it lasts 4-5 days with the same usage.

Maybe the battery drain have to do with the following bug report: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/i/bug-reports/gps-always-on-during-activity-recording-in-ciq-apps. It appears that GPS is recorded for non-GPS activities according to this report.

    can you confirm this?
