Turn-by-Turn Navigation missing - Bug or simply not available?

Hello everyone,

The Venu 4 product page advertises the following:

COURSES WITH TURN-BY-TURN DIRECTIONS

Create or find existing courses in the Garmin Connect smart-device app, or sync from your favorite third-party platforms and get turn-by-turn directions.

But when I create a route and let it navigate me, I don't get any turn-by-turn directions. Only the distance to the destination is shown at the bottom of the display.

Test videos on YouTube have also criticized the lack of turn-by-turn directions, even though they should be available according to the advertising.

Is this false advertising or a bug in the watch?

Do other owners have the same problem?

Many thanks and best regards,
Chris

  • I have now returned my v4.

Regardless of the misleading advertising, I no longer want to be a beta tester for €550 when you look at the errors in v4 here in the forum. My watch has also frozen and restarted during sports, etc. No hotfix, nothing.

And as I've mentioned before, it's been proven time and again that you should never buy a new Garmin watch at the regular introductory price when it's first released...

I hope everyone else enjoys their v4. In a few months and after a few updates, it will surely be a good sports watch. Then maybe it won't be completely overpriced either.

  • Maybe Garmin isn't the ideal company, but which one is? So far, I am satisfied with Garmin products, apart from a few minor issues with the navigation just mentioned. But I believe that Garmin will fix it or at least leave it as it is. Before this, I had Wear OS, and that's a real *** :-D

  • Okay, this is interesting. I too took notice that the Venu 4 was marked as supporting TBT (turn by turn) course navigation upon release, and it seemed this watch ticked all the boxes for me, and I have been saving up for it since, while waiting for it to be available discounted slightly at the end of November.

Now reading this, I am not so sure anymore and I am considering all options again. Do I really need all the features etc.

For TBT, I think it is something I want, but I am wondering, is anyone with a Venu 4 able to test loading a FIT file manually to the device, that has been created with other software to be sure the fit file definitely includes TBT notification markers, e.g. using PlotaRoute: www.plotaroute.com/.../how-to-download-a-route-to-a-garmin-edge

It would be really good to know if there is a potential workaround for this watch via using an external program, instead of Connect, to sync the courses.

I was considering using Runna & Strava for running training plans and map generation and just syncing it to my watch. I currently create routes in Strava and import them to RunGo to use TBT navigation on my phone, while having my phone with me in a velcro strap and Bluetooth headphones. Not good for glancing at a map though, even a breadcrumb map to glance at would be good along with TBT and being able to not carry my phone with me is my goal.
