Heart Rate Way Off after 13.17

Venu 3 automatically updated to the 13.17 software. After update, my heart rate data is not even close to accurate. It's worse when doing activities (watch says 60s, Heart Rate is 130s) but also off when not in activity by +-20.

contacted Garmin support multiple times and they tell me there has been no issues with the update and heart rate. My data was fine before I updated and very accurate

anybody else have this problem?

  • I am a Venu3S user, just bought this as an upgrade from my Fitbit Versa2.  I find the heart rate readings lag behind greatly and are too low at times. I wore both devices for a few days and noticed this.  I also think the calories burned may be too high for certain activities but that wouldn’t be a result of lower heart rate so I don’t know if it’s the algorithm they run for each activity or what.  I’m also having issues with Voice Assistant not connecting.

I love the vision of the watch and expect that Garmin as a brand would be top notch.  They’ve been at this for so long that it’s hard to understand why something as basic as heart rate is hard to get right.  I am not sure I will keep this.

  • That’s an interesting theory.  I have the same problem.  Next time I walk or ride, I will use Cardio to track.

  • So, you did a reset and your Garmin is more accurate all-in-all?

  • Found this thread because I started having same issue with my Venu 3 as well. When I go for a walk I always use the same route, so before my HR on the top of one the hills was always around 135 BMP, but now it's between 80-90, which is nonsensical - I'm not some ultra marathon runner.

I also noticed that during most of my walk HR stays around 80-90, which again for me is nonsensical.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

  • Yes, I wish more people would report this issue. I was tracking a walk and stopped to do a couple sets of bodyweight exercises.  I was breathing really hard, looked at my Venu 3 and it said that my heart rate was 55!  So, I did the usual, power off, then on.  They just don’t care.

  • Tested today on the same walking route, but with Garmin chest strap HRM Pro connected to Venu 3 and as suspected HR is totally different to watch. Same hill instead of 98 on watch I got 135 with strap. Looks like back to Apple watch for me :(
