Venu 2S Crashing Randomly After Firmware 19.05 Update

Hi,

I’ve been using my Venu 2S for the past four years without any issues, but ever since the recent firmware update (version 19.05), the watch has been crashing randomly and frequently. This has been happening for several months now.

I’ve noticed that the crashes usually occur about 1–2 hours after a workout (typically Pilates), but they can also happen at completely random times—even when the watch is idle. The battery is not the issue, as the watch only powers back on after I connect it to the charger, and when it does, it shows over 70% battery remaining.

This issue is extremely frustrating and is affecting my trust in the product. Is there any way to revert to the previous firmware version? I’m genuinely at a loss here—it’s come to the point where I feel like throwing the watch out the window.

Looking forward to your assistance.

  • I have the same issue with my Venu 2. Today I was wearing it and it turned itself off even though the battery level was about 80%. I turned it back on only to see the empty battery symbol which was quickly replaced by the blue triangle and the battery indicator showed 79% once it had started running again.

I've also noticed that sometimes the battery seems to drain much quicker than usual, even when it is not being used to record an activity.

Is there a new software update in the pipeline?

  • This morning my watch turned itself off three times in the course of a 20 minute walk so I decided to do a factory reset. I tried another 20 minute walk this afternoon and it was OK. I'll try and do the same for the coming week and report back. So far I've left the watch in the factory state, no changed face on the watch or any apps. If it works OK for the rest of the week I'll change some settings and see if it makes a difference.

  • Reset watch Sunday.
    Sunday evening walk, OK.
Monday evening walk with watch at 77% OK while walking, but watch switched itself off after stopping the activity. Had to put the watch on charge to get it to stay powered up even though the battery was at 74%.
Tuesday evening walk with watch at 92%. OK while walking but watch switched itself off as soon as I stopped the activity. Had to put the watch on charge to finish the activity and get it to stay on. Battery was about 90%. Not showing energy levels while wearing the watch.
Wednesday evening, set off with watch at 91% charge. The walk passed without the watch turning itself off, and when I got back I put the watch straight on charge and it saved the activity without cutting the last 70m or so off.
Thursday evening, fully charged watch before setting off. Watch worked OK for walk and didn't turn itself off when I got back.
Friday. Didn't use for any activity and watch operated correctly all day and overnight.
Saturday. Fully charged before long walk, shut down after about 45 minutes. Used power pack to keep going, and was able to recharge on the go and complete without further problems.
Sunday. Fully charged before setting off, no problem.

In short the watch is no longer reliable for recording activities unless fully charged before starting and not used for more than three quarters of an hour.

  • I am having identical issues to yours with activities. The watch is no longer reliable at all. And for the first time today it shut down when I wasn’t even tracking an activity. It restarted itself but dropped my steps from 2500 to 195. Steps got back up to the 300’a before it then dropped below 200 steps again. What is going on? I haven’t called Garmin Support because I hear they won’t do anything, but I afraid to invest in a new one.

  • The crash occurs during the strong vibration during the activity. Example lap completed, end activity.

You can test it by starting an activity then keep pressing the bottom button to trigger a lap count several times. (Depending on the battery the lower the less trigger is needed) it will crash.

You can prevent it by turning off the vibration in the setting. OR Garmin can update the firmware to only trigger a softer vibration.

It does not crush when vibration occurs for notifications etc.

  • I am still facing these problems, and it is unacceptable that there has been no clear and official response from Garmin.

I went to a Garmin store, and all they did was reset my watch, which did not solve the issue.

This is clearly a widespread problem affecting many customers worldwide.

We deserve an official statement and a permanent solution, not temporary fixes or silence.

Who is taking responsibility for this failure and for the trust we placed in Garmin?

At this point, I am seriously considering abandoning Garmin and moving to an Apple Watch instead.

I expect immediate and transparent communication from Garmin.

  • I feel the latest update 19.05 the activity vibration became stronger. Setting the vibration to low do not make any difference. They can easily fix it by just managing the vibration strength for activity.

Quite sad as this is my 3rd garmin watch and l am losing confidence in getting the next one.

  • I agree 100%. I just tried the vibration suggestion and it does prevent it from crashing (so far), but for the price we paid I shouldn’t have to give up an important feature like being alerted about laps or other metrics.  I called Garmin Support last week and they certainly didn’t mention any knowledge of a problem, even when I probed about it, or offer any solutions or help that would fix it. I have been a loyal Garmin user for 12 years and don’t know what I’d even switch to for the same features. The problem is I’m afraid they know that. They know they have cornered the market on fitness watches and don’t feel the need to address issues and provide quality support.

  • only need to switch off during activity tracking. All other normal usage the Vibration do not cause the crash. Notification alert, Step/Stair goal met have not cause any crash.

I agree Vibration during activity tracking is a important feature especially that Venu series is quite a expensive model. I can understand if the battery can last less and less days over years of usage but not being able to run a core function even when still fully charge is really not acceptable,

And it is very troublesome to turn on and off vibration during activites/
