High Battery Drain on Version 19.05

Took my Venu 2 off charge (100%) at 20:00 last night and this morning at 07:00 it is already 84%.

What is draining the battery so much during the night when I'm asleep?

  • It boggles my mind that Garmin won't give us the simple option of rolling our watches back to the previous firmware. It seems like all of these issues are a result of the latest firmware upgrade (19.05)

  • This is how it started for me, it would turn off during activities when below 50% battery. Since then it just gets worse, I could use my watch for 10 days, then it went to 4 and now I'm losing almost 50% battery everyday (all this in a period of two months). It's a shame that the service center literally has no other option than to exchange watches if any problem arise. They are not researching what could be the cause.

  • It's amazing how everyone is suffering from exactly the same issue. Mine was still working ok in August 2024, but from then on, the battery life has shortened and the device kept rebooting when starting some activities. Now I need to charge it at least twice a day, and it needs to be over 80% before I start any activity (and I still can't complete a 1h run when the device is fully charged).

  • I saw a guy on Reddit who fixed the problem by:

    - Removing the device from the Garmin Connect app
    - Forgetting the pairing in the Bluetooth settings
    - Turning Bluetooth off and restarting the phone (maybe optional step)
    - Turning the watch off and then on (maybe optional step)
    - Going to Garmin Connect and adding the device
    - On the watch, go to Settings, Connectivity, Phone, Pair Phone
    - Waiting for the two devices to find and pair
    - Going through the initial setup process in the Garmin Connect app
    I'm gonna try this

    Did this resolve your issue?

  • I not only have issues with battery drainage, but the watch turns off when i try to start an activity, during it or when i stop an activity. Displays me a empty battery image, but when i plug in the charger then it's in the same ballpark as it was before i started the activity, like today when i started the activity then the battery was 66%, the watch turned it off during the activity and when i plugged the charger in, it was 64%. I have done all of what the guy on Reddit wrote and it's not getting better, it's getting worse by the day.

  • About a week after i wrote the previous comment, then i have started to see the bigger battery drainage as well - went to sleep and the watch was about 30% (maybe even a bit more), i woke up at 5am because the watch let me know that the battery was 0%.

And the turning off during the activity thing has gotten worse as well, at first it happened only when the battery was less than 50%, now it happens not only during/stopping the activity, but while starting and the battery is at 66%.. And no steps taken by Garmin to fix it.

  • I'm guessing yours was less then 2 years old and under warranty then? Cause my warranty ran out and Garmin support offered a new Venu 2s for 169€. But they couldn't tell me what happens when the new one starts having the same issues as the old one because of the buggy software.

  • The turning off when an activity was started/during the activity or when ending it started about 3 weeks ago (it has gotten worse in the last few days - started when the battery was under 50%, today it was 66%). The big battery drainage thing started about a week after that.

It amazes me that Garmin isn't fixing the buggy software after so many complaints, it's like they are trying to kill off Venu 2/2s. They are just offering a new one for 169€ (at least that what was told to me).

  • This solution did not work for me. The GARMIN support even told me to do a complete factory reset of my watch and it did not help either. There is no solution so far and the problem is getting worse every day.

  • It was the same for me at first. Now when it turns off at 40% and I plug it in, it shows a lower percentage. I think it might have completely messed up the % indication because of the battery draining very fast. Even the watch cannot keep up with the battery levels changing so fast. It is completely crazy that we all have the same problems and that GARMIN is not looking into it!
