Google Assistant not working after latest update - follow up

https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/healthandwellness/f/venu-2-plus-964331130/318314/google-assistant-not-working-after-latest-update

I believe this is a [edited] joke. I followed the thread above for like months and basically none of the users which were complaining about the assistant not working for them had one of the device listed in the "Incompatibility list". So my only guess is that you, Garmin, [edited], given that previous thread had over 30k views and decided to just close that one hoping for problem to go away, hoping that people will create many small threads for each incompatibility case. Why do you care less about people ? In my case the assistant does not work for months (even a year maybe), I sent you all kinds of logs, diagnostics and other potentially useful information and you did literally nothing, I've never heard back from you. So I hope this thread (and previous one) will serve as the BIG WARNING FLAG for other people considering buying your watches with Google Assistant. I hope it will work for other people, but in case it wouldn't just don't expect much if any support. Considering this is a watch for like over 400$ it's just a sad joke.

PS. I hope all this people which previously posted in previous thread will also post here to gain some "visibility" of this thread too.

Cheers

  • "Market their watches"? Check your ai.

I use the venu as a workout hybrid active watch. Some things it does well. Like hiking and biking.  It misses reps in the gym, or on shoveling at.  It can't count reps well.

I like the accompanied video workouts that were introduced with the vivo active line.

Other areas just don't get the support.  The whole point of this watch is onboard speaker and mic.  Otherwise id choose a VA watch.   Mic can't function, and music plays at will, like when rebooting or charging the watch. Leading me to delete the music app and not use the watch for listening to music or voice command.  Literally the only reason I have the venu 2 plus.  The only one.  And it failed.  This watch was fine a year ago. Today is a point of stress in my life, stress I don't need.

  • I don't disagree. I moved from the Active2 to a Vivo 4 for the battery life and then the Venu2 for the Amoled and then like you from the 2 to the 2 plus for speaker and mic. So yes that was also the only reason for the 2 to 2 plus for me as well. And yes I am very frustrated as well.

  • Ha!  There are, however, some significant differences between the two cases.  Google is killing GA on an older OS, is telling people ahead of time, and has an understandable reason for it.  It's was a decision.  Venu 3--a new model watch, Venu 2 Plus, not that old, stop working with no explanation (at least one floats--not "problem exists between you and your phone").  There was certainly no pre-communication if Garmin knew this would stop working, In Garmin's case, it's a bug or design limitation, but Garmin is mum about it.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • I do not use the rep counters, but I can tell you that the step counters on the Pixel Watch 2 and Galaxy Watch 6 appear to be more accurate.  I know this because as I take steps, I can the see the counter going.  Also, there are fewer phantom counters.  With the Garmin, I would get out of bed and already have like 100 steps lol.  I am currently using the Galaxy Watch 6.

  • I am currently using the Galaxy Watch 6.

How is battery life? Do you have a Samsung phone?

    Yes. Absolutely agree.

  • The Pixel 2 Watch has much better integration with the Pixel 8 Pro, including photos, camera control, DND, etc.  As you pointed out, non-Samsung phones cripples the GW.  HOWEVER, I was able to get camera control, DND, blood pressure, ECG, etc. back by sideloading apps.  The only thing that does not work is photos.  I am using the GW only because it has a larger display and longer battery life.  I can go two days sometimes with AOD.

PW2 uses Fitbit.  GW uses Samsung Health.  They suck in their own ways.  GW's sleep O2 sat is not at all accurate.  Neither watch alerts stress properly.  But then again, Garmin leaves items to be desired as well.

Samsung Health does not have a web interface.  However, you can use a 3rd-party sync app that does have one.

It's true about what you wrote regarding my previous post being more smart-watch focused.  However, both PW2 (Fitbit) and GW (Samsung Health) have a full suite of fitness and health metrics.  However Garmin markets the product, one of the leading features for the Venu 2 Plus and Venu 3 is GA, and it does not work.  I paid a premium for that feature.

    Yes. Totally agree.

  • Please see my other reply to you.  Pixel Watch 2 allows me to go about 36-40 hours and Galaxy Watch 6 (47mm) can go 45-50 hours, both with AOD on.  I don't use Samsung phones because of the bloat and difficulty to root.  Samsung has become a walled-garden like Apple, as shown by their watch integration.
