Body Fat % issue on high carb diet?

Based on all the posts about inaccurate body fat %, I'm guessing this is just another example of messed up body fat % on the index s2 scale. But, this is a bit strange as the body fat % had been working fine for me up until the point when I switched to a high carb (50%), low fat (20%) diet. As soon as a switched my body fat % jumped 1% yet my waist shrunk. That makes absolutely no sense. How could my body fat go up and belly fat go down?

Is this possibly related to the already known issues with body fat %? Theoretically, a high carb diet causes glycogen to get stored in the muscles, possibly replacing water storage. Is the scale assuming anything but water is fat?

  • Definitely high carb intake pushes up the BF% reading.  I have been on a low carb diet for ages and just switched to a slightly increased carb diet.  Weight has increased due to increased muscle mass by 3-4 lbs but BF% has increased by up to 3%.  Absolute nonsense and a useless measure as I have said before.  Electrical impedence measure my eye - Its a glorified calculator using the BMI method to calculate BF
