How to Update to 1.07 - Index BPM Software Version 1.07 Now Available

The update of the software for the BPM has been announced but I had to search and thanks to the post that I or anyone could easily miss, I had no idea of how to update the BPM. I would have thought that this needed to be an important part of the post notifying us of the update particularly since the latest manual online says:

Maintenance

  • No firmware update is needed during the service life of this product.
  • On very rare occasions, you might need to reinstall the firmware on the device due to hardware malfunction. In this case, the intended use remains unchanged.
  • Any modification or change to the firmware is prohibited.

My thanks to  who posted this link. The answer on how to update can be found here:

https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=Hcsz10tt7T0sl21CzyB8u8&productID=716808&searchQuery=software%20update&tab=topics

Use the below instructions to update your device.

  1. Remove the Index BPM from the Garmin Connect app.
    1. Open the Garmin Connect App.
    2. Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right).
    3. Select Garmin Devices.
    4. Select the device you want to remove.
    5. Select     (top right).
    6. Select Remove Device.
    7. Confirm you want to remove the device.
    8. Remove the device from your smartphone’s Bluetooth settings.
  2. Reset your Index BPM to default settings.  See Resetting the Device for more information.
  3. Remove and re-install the battery door.
  4. Add the Index BPM back to your account by pairing the device with the Garmin Connect app.  See Pairing Your Device with the Garmin Connect App for more information.

Once paired with the Garmin Connect app, your monitor will automatically download any available software updates.

  • Hello, have you sent an email to garmin support Germany ? I think it’s the only way to get an efficient support because I’m not sure the issue we have is linked to a wrong user configuration. On my side I’ve followed strictly the user manual and the issue remains. My issue : I can sync with my profile which is the main profile. I can invite a garmin user, this user can accept and the device is then visible from his account but the secondary profile is not available from the device. I believe the firmware 1.07 might solve this issue. And as I said before, the upgrade procedure does not work at all.

  • Have you removed the device completely from your account? Please make sure you do this:

    1. Open the Garmin Connect App.

    2. Select More (bottom right).

    3. Select Garmin Devices.

    4. Select the device you want to remove.

    5. Select   (top right).

    6. Select Remove Device.

    7. Confirm you want to remove the device.

Then, remove it from your phones' bluetooth list

Finally, fully reset the BPM, see the manual:

Once you have done this, please re dd it to your account and see if the software updates

  • Hello,

Thank you, yes I did exactly this procedure and I did it a lot (more than 20 times). The upgrade is not triggered. On the web, with Firefox or safari, I can see a message saying a new version is available so my device is well seen with firmware 1.06 by connect. The issue is the procedure does not work for me, I live in France, my guess is the firmware is not scheduled to be deployed in this country, garmin should check if it is really the case.

note : customer service in France answered me by sharing the user manual of the index S2 that I own too and which works smoothly. Such support is not serious. I’ve replied by explaining once again the issue but no answer so far.

    regards

  • Hey

i got the same problem, i come from germany. The Device works only with one user. I can add as much as i want, but the device never recives the new persons. I tryed it with ios and android. Im stuck with SW 1.06. The Web portal says it has an update. But i cant connect the BPM device with garmin express.

Ofc i resetet the device at least 7 times.

    regards

    Losiga

  • Exactly the same for me. Tested with different Devices (mobiles), deleted the device from my pc as a test and and and..... No update is triggered. Stuck on 1.06, while garmin connect tells me an update is available.

  • Ok, we are many with the same issue. Garmin France wants my device in service repair, I will do it but I’m pretty sure it won’t solve the problem except if Garmin can force de firmware upgrade in factory. I suggest you contact Garmin as well.

    I will keep you updated.

  • @alex Do I have permission to reach out to you directly, outside of the forums?

  • Yes of course,

    Moderator Edit : Email removed

  • Please keep us updated. Just got my one today and have exactly the same issue. I'm in Germany. No possibility to get a second user added and no update process starts for version 1.07. Stuck on 1.06.

  • I have the feeling, that my WiFi connection does not work with this device. I made following test:

    • Remove Device
    • Remove from Bluetooth
    • Reset Device
    • Run setup with Garmin Connect App
    • Setup user-name
    • Setup Wifi
    • Wait for sync
    • User is visible
    • Change user-name
    • Enforce Wifi Sync (first Wifi appeared then Bluetooth)
    • New User-Name was at the device
    • Now I turned off bluetooth at my phone
    • Changed user-name again
    • Enforced Wifi sync again
    • Still old user-name at the device
    • Checked at Garmin-Connect-Web where I was able to see the right user-name

So I guess, that the Wifi-connection does not work and the device is trying to use Bluetooth as fallback. If running a software update is only working through Wifi, it would explain why an update never was triggered. From the Garmin Connect App I could check the Wifi connection and I get an OK. But not sure which test is behind this functionality.

Maybe someone else could try a similar test like this one.
