Any one else having lots of drop outs?

I have had my Garmin RS200 and my Garmin 830 for about a month now. Sending structured work outs from Training Peaks via Garmin Connect to the 830 and using it to control my 2016 WaHoo KICKR. I can also use Rouvy on my IPAD to control the trainer and then just record the Rally metrics on the 830.

The first few weeks, everything looked perfect in GC. Last week I started noticing a few power and cadence drop outs each ride and it continues to get worse every ride.

Here is today's workout

Not sure what to try. I get the drop outs if I use Rouvy or the 830 to control the work out. I recorded a short workout today on my  FR945 and it shows the same drop outs too.

It seems that may have coincided with the FR945 beta firmware I installed, but not sure, I will leave my 945 off and a long ways away for my next workout. Not sure if the 945 could cause this or not?

I will submit a ticket, but any suggestions on things to try would be appreciated.

  • The problem definitely isn't caused by interference or BLE/ANT+ being unreliable. In fact that was my original hypothesis, and I spent a lot of time experimenting with various devices and various connections, without success. But the third set of pedals work just fine in all of the BLE/ANT+ situations where the first two sets had frequent dropouts, so the problem clearly is with the pedals (design and/or manufacturing). Several others have reported the same experience (a new set of pedals working in the same environment where previous sets had dropouts).

  • Can you email the original fit file for that activity to [email protected]?

  • I just got a pair of Rally XC 200 and I'm having the same issue with Power Phase dropout on the right pedal - updated to 3.0 firmware. At consistent power ~200-300 w total, the right pedal PP will disappear for a second or two every 5-6 seconds... everything else seems to be working, but this dropout is concerning - has anyone had success in resolving this issue? I'm still within my return window so will probably be sending these back unless there's a fix for this - too premium a price for a still faulty product...

  • I am on my third set and I still see lots of power phase (PP) drop outs. Garmin was good about sending replacements at first but after the third set they said it must be interference. I only have PP problems indoors so I guess interference is possible. My first set had lots of power drops so at least that problem is fixed. In general I am happy with the Rally’s so I try not to fuss over the power phase, however is PP is important to you then ask for a replacement or your money back.

  • Thanks for the update... PP isn't that important per se (I don't spend that much time looking at it - just find it occasionally interesting when working on smoothing out my pedal stroke) but since I'm noticing this outside (and have turned off bluetooth connection on my phone, so only using ANT+ connection from Edge 1030 to pedals) - I don't think it's interference... Just slightly concerned that it's indicative of a larger issue, but if you're not seeing any other types of data loss, that's hopeful at least. Thanks again.

  • Send them back and buy a new pair. It took me 3 tries to get a set that worked properly (PP doesn't drop out), and it has taken others (who posted here) more iterations. The problem is definitely not interference (e.g., nothing had changed in my environment when I finally got a pair that worked), and Garmin consistently refuses to acknowledge that there's a systematic problem.

  • Since 2 days, me too, I'm experiencing a lot of dropouts with my pedals. Never happened before.

  • I have not already, you may want to check that the battery caps are tight.  I was having a similar issue; that is, pedals worked great for several months then I started to have drops in connectivity with my Edge 830.  I discovered that the left pedal battery cap was quite loose.  I have retightened the cap and that seems to have resolved the problem.

  • Same problem remains. I am finally sick of it and re-engaging with Garmin Support. I'm outside all windows but have a ticket I started well within the warranty. I am hoping they'll support and send a new pair. The problem is ONLY the right pedal. Never the left pedal.

I reengaged with Garmin Support and am having a new warehouse set sent to me as a warranty replacement. I am thinking I will move this discussion and start a new forum thread since it's such a specific subset of dropouts. For anyone who's not seen the posts to here, the issue is intermittent power phase dropouts on the pedals. In my case my right pedal drops out  (and has dropped out) since shortly after I bought them. I seem to lose display of the data BUT it appears it makes it into Garmin Connect after the ride. I've used the pedals with both a Garmin Edge 1030 and 1040 with the same problem. I see it indoors and outdoors.

New pedals arrive soon....more to follow.
