The actual percentage figure was great and to change it with this latest update is just daft and obviously programmed…
I used "di2 battery" for my E-bike with steps e8000, is horrible to loos the % value

This is true for a lot of Garmin UI on 530/830 smaller screen devices but as Garmin testers seem to only use 1030+ devices, (with twice the screen size and better resolution), when (if) they test they don't notice a problem, I would always prefer a numerical value rather than an often cryptic and tiny icon,
Have a look at some of the Connect IQ apps / widgets / fields and you might find one that preserves the numerical value display or has a better / clearer icon.
The improvement is really for systems with multiple batteries such as SRAM
