Garmin Tempe sensor connectivity for the Edge series

Hi All,


After I purchased an Edge 830 and realized that the Tempe sensor is not supported (weird) I wrote a Tempe datafield and a widget for the Edge series.

    I think it is used for fluid consumption, heat acclimation and a few other metrics.

    Something is definitely going on, I have also experienced dropouts on the graph. I am going to investigate it as soon as I am less busy and will give you an update here.

    And it's a cool toy and it's more data ;-)

    Seriously, it can be interesting to see whether there's really been a big temperature rise or was it just because you've turned direction and you're no longer casting a shadow on the Edge on your bars.

    last Saturday it was the same, It worked for some minutes then the error was shown. I stopped thinking on it and did not removed/add again the data field. 

    Hopefully you will be able to find why we have this behavior and fix it

    Hi!

    Just a quick update... I think one of the times the data field is guaranteed to crash is when the lap button is pressed. Looking back through old rides I reckon every single time I've pressed 'lap' it's crashed.

    Hope this helps. Today's ride in Sydney's heat showed how much direct  sun shining on the unit affects the recorded internal temperature.

    Hello! Thanks for the development.  I get an error when using Fahrenheit, however.  Seems to work fine in Celcius.  I'm using this on an Edge 530

    Thanks very much for this.  I've previously only used the Tempe with my Garmin Forerunner watches and it was only this morning that I discovered that my Edge 530, a brilliant computer, didn't connect to it.  Then I found this and uploaded it to my 530 straight away and it works really well so far.  Immediately shows a 2.3 degree difference to the 530's built in temp.  I know this isn't going to change much in my riding, training or racing but I'm a data geek and I love it!

    I do know that the Tempe needs to move every so often just to keep it awake.  I have it attached to the outside of a rucsac or bum bag when running and will have to look for something on my bike that enables some movement but is not in full glare of the sun.

    Actually I don't believe it does. It only broadcasts every 60 seconds so that's why there's a delay when you first connect to it, but it's nothing more complicated than that. 

    I have mine mounted under my saddle, attached to one of the straps of my saddle bag.

    Thanks Pete - you're right.  I've had mine connected to my 530 all morning whilst working at my PC to look at the temp of my office (serious stuff)!!!  The 530 says it's 28.4 and the Tempe says 24.5.  I'm believing the Tempe because it's closer to other measures too.  This is excellent and will get yet more use out of my Tempe.

    Another use was Ski Mountaineering earlier this year with my Fenix 6.  Great to see the swing of temp through the day of up and downhill work.

    How does connecting the sensor work exactly? I am trying to use the data field on my Edge 830. After installing it, the device shows only "Searching..." in the data field. When going the normal route of adding a sensor on the Edge, it does not find the Tempe. How do I connect the Tempe to the Edge?
