Sensor Dropout Feedback

We realize how important sensor data is to our customers and how frustrating it can be when there are issues with it. If you are experiencing these issues with sensor drop outs the engineering team would like to understand the following information to help understand the issue.

  1. What version of Edge 530/830 software are you using?
  2. How long into your ride did the issue occur?
  3. Did all of your sensors dropout at once or was it just one?
  4. Did the sensor connection(s) recover on their own?
  5. What sensors did you have connected with the issue occurred?
    1. What sensors were connected over BLE?
  1. Did you have your phone connected?
    1. Is it Android or iOS?
    2. What version of GCM do you have?
    3. Were you using LiveTrack?
  2. Please upload activity .FIT files from this occurred if possible.

    35 minutes

    All sensors

    Did not recover

    ANT+

Lights, heart rate (from Fenix 5), cadence (all ANT+)

Phone connected (don't recall if it was also disconnected)

    A. Android

    B. Unsure (updating now)

    C. Yes but stopped working ~15 minutes into ride

  • No dropouts since moving to 3.33 after 7 rides (crossing fingers it's fixed).  Now can you fix the calibration prompt issue?  :-)

  • You have to connect the PM via ant+ to get the calibration prompt. For some unspecified reason it doesn’t pop up when connected via bt

  • Yesterday i lost the connection with the HR sensor 5 times. Firmware 3.33 / 830. I was riding with someone else who had no problems with his 820.

The connection has each time come back.

  •  i get plenty of dropouts over BLE with different sensors on different bikes, can't see a pattern when or why, but if it happens all BT sensors freeze and don't come back, while the speed sensor over ant+ keeps working. Today I realized that the BT connection to the phone was also lost. Sometimes when loosing the sensors the whole unit freezes, does not react to start/stop button and I have to do a hard reset by pressing the on/off button for some time. After that sensors come back on most of the time. Today it happened after a auto pause at a red light. I then did a new search for sensors and connected the powermeter and HR sensor over ant+. The Edge now showed both connections (BT&Ant+) as active in the sensors page but I got data again.

    1. 3.20.

    2. Different times, sometimes nothing happens, sometimes I have to do 3 restarts on a 3hr drive

    3. Only BLE (Powermeter & HR) Speed sensor keeps working over ant+

    4. No

    5. I'm using 2 Stages gen2 and a Quark Powermeter, Garmin speed sensors and a Berry King HR sensor

        a. Always the powermeters and the HR sensor

    6. Yes. I have the iphone with me most of the time and I'm wearing a apple watch every time. Sometimes tracking with the watch too but I get the dropouts also when only wearing the watch without tracking.

        a. iOS

        b. I don't know what this is

        c. No

    7. Here's a bunch of .fit files:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/3uj0m6gratdhgvr/Dropouts.zip?dl=0

  • Not an Edge 830  unit.... but this is what i noticed on my VIVOACTIVE 3, during every ride the  connection drops from either the GSC10 Sensor or HRM Strap and my phone. i tried using the watch alone without all the connected sensors except the phone and it went smoothly.

So, i guess the watch is not so capable of handling multiple sensors?which causes multiple dropouts although its Ant+ and Bluetooth compatible.

Hope the recent update on the Edge 830 resolves this issue.

  • Hello guys, i tried the new firmware this morning. it did not fix the issue had with the 3.30 This is even worse, now i even lost the HR data during the ride on top of the power data. A restart fixed the issue after the device totally freezed.

However after the restart i could ride 2hours without any drop.

    3. Did all of your sensors dropout at once or was it just one? All at once
    4. Did the sensor connection(s) recover on their own? No
    5. What sensors did you have connected with the issue occurred? HR and power meter
      1. What sensors were connected over BLE? HR monitor in ANT+ / power meter in BLE
    1. Did you have your phone connected? yes
      1. Is it Android or iOS? IOS
      2. What version of GCM do you have? No idea

Next crash, this time with beta 3.33. After 7 minutes device reset itself, turned off and on by itself.
Activity was stopped and after restart I was able to continue it. All sensors reconnected.
As strange as is after I stopped my ride I got a new record: 880 W 20' avg. power. Of course it's not realistic.

    1. Beta 3.33
    2. 7 minutes. For details see .fit file attached.
    3. Device did a complete reset/restart itself.
    4. Yes
    5. SRM power, Garmin speed, RTL 511
    6. Yes, iOS, GCM 4.19.1, LiveTRack active

    1. What version of Edge 530/830 software are you using?
      Version 3.20.0.0
    2. How long into your ride did the issue occur?
After installing sensor, I get a connection but no readings on display and no results of powermeter.
    3. Did all of your sensors dropout at once or was it just one?
      Just powermeter
      -> 3 powermeters connected:
               - 2x Quark GXP
               - 1x Dura Ace
    4. Did the sensor connection(s) recover on their own?
Connection is ok, but no values

      ANT+:   Heart-rate monitor
                   Powermeter

      2. What version of GCM do you have? Where can I find this information and what does GCM mean?
      3. Were you using LiveTrack? Yes
