Sensor Dropout Feedback

We realize how important sensor data is to our customers and how frustrating it can be when there are issues with it. If you are experiencing these issues with sensor drop outs the engineering team would like to understand the following information to help understand the issue.

  1. What version of Edge 530/830 software are you using?
  2. How long into your ride did the issue occur?
  3. Did all of your sensors dropout at once or was it just one?
  4. Did the sensor connection(s) recover on their own?
  5. What sensors did you have connected with the issue occurred?
    1. What sensors were connected over BLE?
  1. Did you have your phone connected?
    1. Is it Android or iOS?
    2. What version of GCM do you have?
    3. Were you using LiveTrack?
  2. Please upload activity .FIT files from this occurred if possible.
  • Agreed. I have little confidence when I train that my HR or power meter will stay connected. They drop and reconnect every 30 seconds. 

  • Any update to this issue? It’s still not fixed in latest firmware after 3 years…

  • I called Garmin support a few weeks ago and the guy I spoke with was great. He said this is a known issue at Garmin. For some reason a small percentage of cycling computers are affected. First he offered to put me on a list to be contacted when they have a solution. I told him I’d need to buy a competitor’s unit. He offered to send a replacement free of charge. New unit works fine. So call Garmin and ask them to make things right. 

  • Let us know if your dropouts start again. It would be interesting to know if it is in fact a hardware problem. Maybe a particular run of chips that have worked their way out of the system. Some have had degrees of success turning off Bluetooth on the Edge. I rolled back to firmware 7.1 when 8.1 was introduced and have not had a sensor dropout or Bluetooth sync issue since.

    2. How long into your ride did the issue occur? Very often. In a ride of about 2h, about 10-15 times.
    3. Did all of your sensors dropout at once or was it just one? All of them. HR ( ForeRunner 935), Power and Cadence (Fazua gear). Only some times, the phone too ( Android 11, Unihertz Atom L)
    4. Did the sensor connection(s) recover on their own? Yes. Inmediately.
    5. What sensors did you have connected with the issue occurred? HR ( ForeRunner 935), Power and Cadence (Fazua gear). Only some times, the phone too ( Android 11, Unihertz Atom L)
      1. What sensors were connected over BLE? Power and Cadence (Fazua gear)

      1. Is it Android or iOS? Android 11, Unihertz Atom L
      2. What version of GCM do you have? 4.58.1
      3. Were you using LiveTrack? Yes.

    All dropouts are solved when the phone is not connected to the Garmin Edge.

      1. Last two rides happend at the 30 minute mark
    3. Did all of your sensors dropout at once or was it just one?
      1. All sensors
    4. Did the sensor connection(s) recover on their own?
      1. Yes
    5. What sensors did you have connected with the issue occurred?
      1. What sensors were connected over BLE?
        1. Wahoo speed, stages power/cadence, wahoo hr strap, shimano di2
    1. Did you have your phone connected?
      1. Is it Android or iOS? - Android
      2. What version of GCM do you have? - ???
      3. Were you using LiveTrack? - Yes
