Sensor Dropout Feedback

We realize how important sensor data is to our customers and how frustrating it can be when there are issues with it. If you are experiencing these issues with sensor drop outs the engineering team would like to understand the following information to help understand the issue.

  1. What version of Edge 530/830 software are you using?
  2. How long into your ride did the issue occur?
  3. Did all of your sensors dropout at once or was it just one?
  4. Did the sensor connection(s) recover on their own?
  5. What sensors did you have connected with the issue occurred?
    1. What sensors were connected over BLE?
  1. Did you have your phone connected?
    1. Is it Android or iOS?
    2. What version of GCM do you have?
    3. Were you using LiveTrack?
  2. Please upload activity .FIT files from this occurred if possible.
  • Lots of  frequent disconnections from Di2, RTL510, HRM  and GSC10 on my Edge 830 on SW6.00.

  • I’ve noticed them same since software update 6.0, every ride now without fail it loses connection to all sensors on both bikes I have.

powermeter, hr, phone, di2, etap, speed sensor all drop out, normally around 10km into ride

  • Forgot to include my phone:) that is why im hesitant to update to 6.20, the current worst issue might be a disaster .

  • Equipment:

    Edge 830 latest updates today

    Speed Sensor 2 & Cadence configured Ant+

    Powerpod V3 configured Ant+

    Problem:

After a 2hr ride or so we stop 40mins have coffee. I leave the Garmin still on.

Get back on the bike wake up sensors and turn Powerpod on.

Continue ride but power shows 0W.

Stop go into Garmin sensor screen and try to reconnect to Powerpod. It doesn't see the Powerpod.

After finishing my ride I record the ride.

Why isn't the Garmin seeing the Powerpod? This is an intermittent problem.

  • 1.  Edge 830. Just downloaded V7.00 Two days ago.  This ride was the first with v7.00

    2.  I don’t know, but looks like almost immediately after I started riding.  Computer said it was connected but heart rate was 68bpm for the whole uphill ride.  It should have registered about 130-140bpm.

    3.  Just heart rate sensor. But computer said sensor was connected.

    4.  Sensor apparently never recovered, but who knows?

    5.  Connected over BLE were Garmin Speed, Cadence, and Heart Rate chest band.

    6. iPnone 11 was connected to Edge 830 using Garmin Connect Mobile v4.37.0.28.  Was not using LiveTrack.

  • 1. Edge 830. Downloaded v7.00 two days ago. This was first ride with updated version.

    2. I don’t know how long into ride issue occured.  Computer showed heart strap as connected at beginning of ride and twice during ride.

    3. Only HR strap reported false numbers.  Speed and cadence sensor numbers looked normal for this particular ride.  Heart rate was reported at a constant 68, but should have been about 130-145vpm.

    4. Heart strap always showed as connected but reporting 68bpm. Should have shown 130 or more.

    5. Also connected over BLE: Garmin Cadence and Speed sensors.

    6. Phone was connected. iPhone 11 running Garmin Connect Mobile v4.37.0.28.  Not using LiveTrack.

Hello, I have Edge 830 now for 7 months. I frequently experienced sensors dropout. I could not reconnect any of my HR, cadence, speed sensors, not even manualy. It only happened after a longer pause, 30+ min. I had to save activity and restart the device for sensors to get recoonnected. Then I read on here on forum under similar thread, that it has something to do with Blutooth connection to the phone. It said there to turn off BT on phone would do the trick. I tried, but it did not. Then I tried turning off BT connection on Edge 830. After that, I never got a sensor dropout again, even after a long pause 2h+. It is true though, that all functions regarding connection to the phone are now disabled. But I dont really miss them. At that time I also updated Edge to the FW 6.0. I never checked wether it worked due to the new FW or disabeling BT on device.

  • Hi Ronald,
I experienced that before on my edge, returned it for a refurbished, compared it with a same edge of a friend. Only my friends edge did not had this problem. All had problems with short-time disconnecting to my stage power meter.
The refurbished was better than my original one, so I decided to rest my case.
Then after a repair, the next refurbished once more indicated Garmin is not in control of this. This was on an edge 810.

Note that the issue is on more forums and is indicated for the 830 as well. It will be my key indicator since I am on the market again. I am really looking for a valuable reply by Garmin.

Note for AweatherAll, if it would be part of software, it would not appear different over a nr of similar versions and it would be solved after 2 upgrades since the 810.

  • I responded to Ronald (posting 1yr ago), but meanwhile I noticed that this is longer running issue (friendly speaking)...

Did anyone indicated a positive reaction ever, from Garmin? I.e. any private reaction regaining your trust in the company to help you out?
It was a nice attempt (2yr ago) by Garmin to collect evidence/information for their engineering team. But it's my indication the silence by Garmin is not much trustworthy
