Navigation and roundabout

When navigating the instructions for roundabouts are driving me mad. I am in the uk so every prompt tells me to turn left as we go left round the roundabouts.. It’s only when I get close to the roundabout I can actually see on the map what exit to take.

Please fix this.

Hi, yes I'm sure I've put the .img file in the correct place, Garmin folder. Cannot see it in the map section of my profile though. There is one base map still enabled and three others which I have disabled... any more ideas, thanks in advance!!

  • I have seen that some OSM packs have unicode, and non-unicode versions. When I was testing them at some time ago, the other ones worked, others didn’t. But I don’t remember which... Perhaps there are different versions to try.

I use maps which come in .gmap format, and then use Garmin Mapmanager to upload to device.

  • Non unicode is the ones to go for.

Thanks for the reply but I've no idea what you mean by unicode, I'm not that technical. I've followed instructions, very similar to DC Rainmaker's but doesn't work for me. What's Garmin MapManager?

  • Not sure if there's any progress at garmin or any effective workarounds, but i'm still getting a mixture of really clear roundabout images and super-zoom roundabout images. I haven't struggled quite as badly on the directions to go on bike paths and i think this can be reduced by methodically clicking on the road not the path, but you need to be very zoomed on the route planning (i tend to use strava).

Even with the super zoom there's normally reliable text at the top banner, so it is workable if you realise what the unit is doing. There's also an image of the turn next to the banner text, but this is too small for my old eyes to read when im riding !

Seems like a pretty clear bug that has been around a few months and im not even sure it is on the garmin to-do list ?

  • Does anyone know if the OSM site http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ has been updated and when ? I don't see any date references on this site, but might have just missed it.

  • There was a discussion related to this on the Garmin Connect Web forum. See thread and answer from  - Update OpenStreetMap tiles

  • OSM data used in OSM map of Garmin Connect is udated.
However, Garmin maps downloaded from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ haven't been updated since the sixth of June 2020.
