Intensity Min not updated with Edge. COME ON!

So, I just learned that my Edge 530 does not add to my IM in Garmin Connect.  Seriously?  Come on Garmin!

I just got the Fenix 6s.  Man, love this watch.  But, there is no way I am wearing this while doing my rides.  Which, apparently is the ONLY way to get IM "credit" for anything.  This is a programming issue, and I saw some posts about this from 9 months ago.

Garmin:  Yes, we LOVE your devices.  We spend TOP dollar on them vs. anything else.  The most important thing tho, is the ECO system.  Garmin Connect needs to be an accurate hub for all that we do.  I am not a runner, or pro tennis player, or cyclist...  I AM ALL OF THEM!  I saw Garmin responded in one thread saying:

"The Edge devices just dont support IM"

Some needed to say (am I will say it here)  THEN FIX IT!  FIX IT, FIX, IT!   Get a dev. on this now.  Its not rocket science.  Everything should be all synced and added together in Garmin connect across ALL devices.

As it stands, I need a note pad and paper to figure out my IM and thats silly with over $2K in hardware with all the sensors and accessories I have.

COME ON!

  • I still dont understand something.

I wear my F6X when cycling. Sometimes directly on my wrist, sometimes on my thick winter cycling clothes.

I record cycling activities only with Edge 530.

    I always wear a HRM-Run strap.

If WHR on F6X is enabled then both my HR is logged in GC, and my IMs are accumulated even if there is zero chance for the optical HR of F6X to measure my HR because of the thick clothes.

Until today I had thought that all my HR data came from HR strap to my F6X, and IMs were accumulated using the HR strap data.

The evidence is that the strap is shown as connected even if no activity is being recorded, and also HR widget shows the HR data coming from the strap, again even if no activity is being recorded.

A couple of days ago I switched off WHR on my F6X.

Today I rode, it recorded by 530, wore HRM-Run, F6X was with me, but no IMs were accumulated.

So even if F6X receives the HR data of HRM-Run, they are just shown, but never recorded by F6X in not-during-activities periods, because of a disabled WHR??????

Based on logical thinking I can exclude that earlier all the sensible HR data were measure by WHR, sometimes through 3 layers of clothing, including a black, dense cycling jacket.

  • I  set upd a new routine/protocol.

I disabled WHR on my Fenix 6X, because I do not care with the sleep data, and I realized that some IMs are added even if there is no heart rate measured provided one is collecting steps.

As regards my cycling, now it does not matter where I wear my F6X, because I set up a simplified sports app using the default Other. I named it "Bike (IM)", IM is not for Ironman evidently, but for intensity minutes.

I set up a dedicated power rmode called "Bike" and assigned it to "Bike (IM)". In this power mode I disabled everything including the display with a timeout  except for Accessories.

Before I start my cycling with my Edge 530 I start "Bike (IM)" on my Fenix 6Xwhich makes my HRM-Run strap connected, so there will be no intensity minutes lost. And some time after I finish my cycling I stop "Bike IM)" on my F6X and discards it.

NB: The advantage of not using a Bike app on F6X, but other is that it does not confuse my watch. I realized earlier that even if discarding Bike app on F6X helps to avoid getting duplicate activities, it still confuses some performance measures. I do not know whether it is still the case, but using Other definitely saves you from any sideeffects except for some battery drain on F6X. But since my power mode even switches off the display the battery consumption is less than 1% per hour.

I hope my protocol will help others, too.
