Intensity Min not updated with Edge. COME ON!

So, I just learned that my Edge 530 does not add to my IM in Garmin Connect.  Seriously?  Come on Garmin!

I just got the Fenix 6s.  Man, love this watch.  But, there is no way I am wearing this while doing my rides.  Which, apparently is the ONLY way to get IM "credit" for anything.  This is a programming issue, and I saw some posts about this from 9 months ago.

Garmin:  Yes, we LOVE your devices.  We spend TOP dollar on them vs. anything else.  The most important thing tho, is the ECO system.  Garmin Connect needs to be an accurate hub for all that we do.  I am not a runner, or pro tennis player, or cyclist...  I AM ALL OF THEM!  I saw Garmin responded in one thread saying:

"The Edge devices just dont support IM"

Some needed to say (am I will say it here)  THEN FIX IT!  FIX IT, FIX, IT!   Get a dev. on this now.  Its not rocket science.  Everything should be all synced and added together in Garmin connect across ALL devices.

As it stands, I need a note pad and paper to figure out my IM and thats silly with over $2K in hardware with all the sensors and accessories I have.

COME ON!

  • You don't have to record on the watch, just wear it.

  • If I wear the watch without recording activity and only record on edge 520, how is going to work?

  • Intensity minutes are detected whenever your heart rate exceeds certain threshold for a prolonged time. You don't have to be recording any activity.

  • Thanks, the problem is because fenix is inaccurate recording heart rate for me the data will be wrong. There is a huge difference using strap heart rate monitor instead of fenix.

  • Then try the following:

Record the activity on both devices (with HR strap), and then discard it on the watch and keep it on the edge.

  • Wearing the watch while cycling without recording an activity won't solve the problem. Unfortunately, the wrist based HR gives a way(!) lower value than the Edge receives via a HR strap. This is probably related to the algorithm estimating the wrist based HR assuming no activity is performed.

  • If I wear the fenix and edge records HR from strap the intensity will be counted from WHR  and not from the HR strap?

  • The Fenix can only connect to the HR strap when you record an activity (which could be delete afterwards). If you only wear the watch without recording an activity, only the WHR is recorded and used for IM.

  • Sorry guys..  I'm not sure if I was clear when I started this post..  my point was not to come-up with a "work around".  ( I am never going to wear my watch on my bike when I have a $400 Edge computer) My point was to Garmin..  to FIX it..  and I was hoping they would see this post and do something about it.  There is NO point to wear a watch when you have a 530..  (at least there should not be).

  • You are 100% right. Seems like that Garmin won't fix it because they say that edge series can't support for some reason intensity minutes. I'm disappointed because I would like to combine every day heart rate monitoring and activities. I'm already looking for alternatives and use other platforms to track at least cycling and running.
