Font size of data fields in comparison to Edge 820

When laid next to each other, data fields on the Edge 530 appear smaller than on the Edge 820, see picture. That's due to a visual illusion, as there a more space for each data field on the larger screen. I measured the digits with a ruler and they are exactly of the same height on both devices. However, that's not what I expected when I decided to switch from 820 to 530. One motivation was the larger screen and while it does provide benefit for the map and other graphical data pages, it has no effect on the font size of numerical data fields.

Since I am using data pages with numerical data fields most of the time during my rides, here comes my question:
Are there any plans to increase the font size of standard data fields on the Edge 530 so that they better make use of the available space similar to the Edge 820?

Speaking of font size: I have a long time wish to increase the font size of data fields even further. My main data pages haven't changed for years now and I know by heart which data is shown in each field, so I do not need the description on top of the data fields. It would be great to be able to switch off all field descriptions on one data page and by that increase the font size of standard data fields. This switch could be per data page. Just wanted to share this idea.

more than lame that Gamin never addressed this ever. You can have two data fields shown, and still are seeing mostly unused space. But do not worry about this, Gamin will never ever react to this. Just switch to a Wahoo, they perfectly grow the font with lesser fields, making total use of the DataField space.

I chatted with Garmin about this already way back with the 500, and then with the 520 when it came out. No nothing ever... just the usual kind talk with no solution in mind.

but the 1030 is also not really bigger in font... You can not show two fields, and have them use the space like on Wahoo.

Get a Wahoo.. even small bold has bigger Font than the big 1030. It is actually ridiculous that they do not change that.

Garmin has all the info one needs to make the fields show bigger Font. Why bother and build what is essential?

I agree. Make the font sizes adjustable. Older eyes need that bit of help.

Habe meinen 520 verkauft und habe jetzt einen  wahoo Roam. Selbst mit guten Augen entspannter zwei große zählen zu sehen ohne darauf fokussieren zu müssen Smiley

830 is not a bit bigger
1030 is still much smaller than a wahoo

    Lolz... Writing German.
Anyway, guy rid of my Garmin 520 and now happy with my wahoo. Even with food eyes, much better to see two big numbers without the need of total focus on them

  • Couldn't agree more.  I side-graded from an original ELEMNT to the 530 and am sorely disappointed with the text size!  The descriptions need to be removable to enlarge text size and there needs to be more side-side fields with larger text.  Stunned there's no 6/8 field options in a larger 2 column x 3/4 row arrangement.

unfortunate, Garmin will NEVER make a change to that. Bigger screen: Yes, higher resolution: Yes, higher price: Yes
Fonts that actually fil the Screen and not waste 75% of space: No
I gave up on this completely, sold my Garmin...
