Touchscreen freezes 1050

First ride witth the new 1050.

TouchScreen totaly freezes for complete ride. Even when powered of and on several times.

No reaction or whatever  with gloves off.

Taken of the mount in home everything seems te be allright temperature outside was 4 degrees above freezing point

Didnt have this with the 1040 solar, 1030 and the older models.

What tofdo now?

  • No, my issue is 100% temperature related and it seems a large majority of people on this have the same. I'm not sure why this is still unresolved at this point to be honest. I sent my original unit into them months ago for testing and have heard nothing of substance from garmin regarding the issue as of yet. It seems to continue to be added to other complaints that are of a very different nature. I was very optimistic at first but that optimism is quickly fading along with my satisfaction. At least it's going out of the cold season so it won't be a problem till next winter. Assuming I stay with Garmin.

  • Same for me, now that the temperature is higher than 5°C I don't have the touchscreen problem anymore. When I had the issue, as suggested by some people here, stopping the tour, turning off and on the screen could help to have some response.

  • Experienced the same problem at temperatures of about 10 degrees Celsius with a 1050 bought two weeks ago, SW 12.18

  • Wow that's not great to hear. So far I have had zero issues at temps above 32F on my original 1050 and the new one they sent me. Hopefully that continues. I'm also on 12.18

  • Also a update here.
Temperatures above 5 and no more issues and the rides below 10 were too short to notice if it had issues.

We'll see if it gets fixed before the next winter, but given how some issues get reported during the beta and still get included in the live versions, I'm very, very doubtful that it will be resolved by then...

  • Today, the 1050 froze 3 times during my run but it continued to record my route because I could hear the pause and restart sounds.

The touch screen froze, so I did a restart, deactivated the energy saver, then froze again, avoiding stopping to prevent the auto pause from working, which had the effect of not freezing the 1050.

I was able to record my run.

    The temperature was 20°C.

I have the same problem as all of you but it's not linked to the temperature.

When I received the 1050, it was in 12.16 and I had no problems.

As soon as it switched to 12.17 and 12.18, the touch screen froze.

I know the garmin service and they are not at all responsive.

  •  Today I went out and as soon as the temperature dropped due to a long descent the screen crashed and then reactivated as soon as the temperature rose. The situation is really frustrating... I keep telling myself that I made a bad purchase. [...]

  • I thought it was temperature linked too until yesterday.  I was getting a bit low on battery, so switched to battery saver mode and within a few minutes the screen froze up and I had to reboot to use it again.  Switched off battery save mode and no further issues.

  • I think you mix two different issues here. One is unresponsiveness of the touchscreen due to cold temperatures which is discussed in this topic and the other one is the display freeze, most likely due to a bug in the battery save mode. I reported this quite some time ago here: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-1050/391862/strange-crash-last-ride-display-freeze

It has been ignored by Garmin till now, which is quite frustrating as this is an important function for me (doing Ultras, Randoneeuring etc.). It would be good if you could open tickets on this via Garmin support to raise importance of the issue. If there is no solution soon I will have to sell the 1050 and look for other options.

  • I've got a support ticket open with them, but they wouldn't look at it unless I provided a video of the issue.  Managed to capture this yesterday, so sent that across.  So now we'll see what they have to say.
