Touchscreen freezes 1050

First ride witth the new 1050.

TouchScreen totaly freezes for complete ride. Even when powered of and on several times.

No reaction or whatever  with gloves off.

Taken of the mount in home everything seems te be allright temperature outside was 4 degrees above freezing point

Didnt have this with the 1040 solar, 1030 and the older models.

What tofdo now?

  • I had the same problem last night. It was about 10 degrees celsius. The touch screen was highly unresponsive, eventually became completely unresponsive and then the computer eventually rebooted. This happened twice. Not great.

  • Hello , thanks for your post.

Are you able to consistently reproduce the touchscreen becoming unresponsive? If possible, a video displaying this behavior would be helpful.
How are you powering the Edge 1050 off/on while the touchscreen is "frozen?"

While recording an activity, pressing the power button will lock and unlock the touchscreen. While touchscreen is locked, swiping between data screens is enabled but no other touch inputs (taps) are accepted. Button presses are always enabled.

If you're experiencing similar behavior, please reply to this message letting me know that I can reach out to you for more details.

  • yesterday i did a ride and the weather was warmer in belgium. when it was more than 14 degrees on my garmin i had no problem with the touchscreen. when the temperature later on the ride dropped below 14 degrees i had the same touchscreen problems again. apparently the problems are due to the colder temperatures and the garmin 1050 can not tolerate them. hopefully this can be solved.

  • come posso mettere un video qui ,oggi ne ho fatto uno

  • Hello, I sent you an email just now with info about submitting files to Garmin.

  • Yes, i received your email. Today it was colder and have again the frozen touchscreen   next ride i make a video. And send it to you on Garmin.

  • @garmim-clayton soumds like the bug I had described here: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-1050/391862/strange-crash-last-ride-display-freeze

    Other users confirmed the problem

  • I took my computer out on a ~100km ride recently, it didn't reboot and everything seemed fine, mostly. The 1050 logged a min temp of 9 deg C. My Wahoo logged a min of 4 deg C.

This morning I took it out on a ~30km ride and it rebooted about 2/3rds into the ride. The touchscreen again was unresponsive. The temperature as recorded by the computer didn't go lower than 10 deg C, but my Wahoo computer (I've started running both), read the lowest temp as 6 degrees.

One of the differences between the rides was map density; the reboots have all happened at Regents Park in central London. The long ride recently was further out, so the map data density was lower - the reboots may be a memory management problem.

  • All, thank you for your feedback in this thread.

We are investigating Edge 1050 touchscreen performance (especially in cold, wet conditions) and I'll reach out here with any new info.
If you are able to reproduce the touchscreen not responding or can provide a video displaying poor touchscreen performance, please let me know.

  • Took this week again mine Garmin outside for 3 rides of different day with temp below 4 degrees celsius a and the screen becomes unresponsive or hardly responsive without gloves.

So its mine fourth ride with this cirumstances and with the same outcome.

For me this is a big problem brcause i do ride a lot in wintertime, same amount like summer.

The 1030 and 1040 i did have, have not this problem.

Can you fix this with the sofware updates or will it still be a problem?

In last cast this computer will be not functional for me.

    Please let me know
