Garmin 1040 in 2025 ?

Would you still recommend buying the 1040 in 2025,  just sold my Garmin 840 because it was difficult to read the small text and found the map cramped on such a small screen.

Looked at the new 850 but still think the screen would be too small for my eyesight plus concerned about the battery life on long rides.  As for the 1050 it’s just too expensive for my needs.

  • Unless you ride for 24 hours straight, the 1050 isn't going to leave you stranded. I've been getting 30+ hours on a charge on mine.  The "demanding use" estimate of 20 hours assumes using navigation for that entire time.  When I'm riding for pleasure or fitness, I don't need navigation, and I assume that's true for most other riders. I carry my 1040 in my pocket for backup, and use battery save mode.  It takes me weeks before I really need to charge the 1040....

  • Not pleased with my 1040 compared with the 1030. Too many problems

  • Well, I hope so!  This is my first cycle computer since my old Cateye on my 1990 Diamondback Centurion Master TG.  I rode that for 30 years and quite riding about 25 years ago.  Just got a new road bike and ebike this past summer, and the 1040 was going for $300 in the last hours of Big Deal Days.  I like the larger touchscreen.

  • That's a great deal! I hope you enjoy both the riding and the bike computer!

Personally, I'm satisfied with the 1040 and prefer it to my Wahoo Elemnt Bolt V1, which gave me more issues despite having far less functionality.
