Preview course weird elevation graph and detecting non-climbs

Since a couple of months after an update my device is detecting climbs which is not even a bump on the road. Currently on 27.12

It's always the same segment i ride it detects and climb pro will say "climb".

Attaches i have loaded 2 route. The garage loop is where there actually are climbs on the route and the other is just a flat route. As you can see the elevation graph and the climbs on the course is all weird.

Has anyone has this issue and was able to solve it?

  • seems it’s still present in the last beta: https://forums.garmin.com/beta-program/edge-1040-series/f/community-discussion/407992/climbpro-gives-massive-climbs-on-flat-routes

have the same issue here in NL but thought it was a corrupted map db but now realize it’s the direct Komoot to 1040 sync most likely.

I’m actually in contact with Garmin support due to another issue relaties to Komoot to Garmin syncing: :https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-1040-series/407524/issues-with-komoot-routes/1917519. Contacted Komoot first but they referred me to Garmin saying it’s not there problem to fix…. I will point them to this issue as well as there are multiple things broken it seems in the third-party sync.

  • I started the post on the beta forums and there are some workarounds, but of course I would prefer this would be fixed by Garmin. One workaround is to download the gpx from Komoot (or any other platform) and upload it directly to Garmin Connect. Then it will appear with a correct elevation profile on your Edge. Another workaround is to duplicate the route in Garmin Connect.

  • Note that the issue in your post on the beta forum is something different than the elevation issue being discussed here.

The elevation issue is that during the sync of a route from Komoot (and other platforms?) to Connect (which happens behind the scenes), the elevation data in the resoluting course in Connect becomes messed up (looks like an integer overflow to me).

The issue you describe in your post is that Komoot does not follow the actual road, leading in straight lines that kind of cut the corner. You can easily see this if you zoom in on that specific part of the route, you will see several straight lines connecting the trackpoints and not completely following the actual road. This is something that Komoot should fix.

Just pointing this out to help you in your discussions with Garmin support. In my experience it helps to tackle one issue at a time with them.

  • I know it’s a different issue and it seems multiple things go wrong when syncing from Komoot to Garmin. So far the support request is handled slowly and I’m still baffled by Komoot’s response. I hope they Garmin can fix this as using the syncing feature is so darn easy compared to using manual steps.
