i frankly do not understand why garmin does not fix this since there are so many people complaining about it
What you should do is take one of the Theme files, rename it and make your changes there and set the Edge to use your theme file. That way the changes are kept.
It is very difficult to understand why Garmin has ignored customer requests on this for years and years, the biggest insult is that the Virtual Partner symbol is nearly twice the size of the location cursor…
I don't know why it's so difficult to see your own position marker on the map screen, it is always in the same place on the screen, it's about a centimetre up from the bottom of the screen and in the centre, it never moves away from that position. It's the map that moves. It's just a case of, looking at that spot.
When I had my 800, I actually cut out a tiny triangle of hi Viz tape and stuck it over the spot where the position marker resides, it worked a treat, but when it fell off, I then realised I do not need to mark the spot, the position marker is easy to see as it's always in the same place, you do not have to search for it, it will never be at the top, the sides or anywhere else. It's position is fixed.
And as for changing the position marker to the size of the VP, that neither will work as people complain it's too big and map features cannot be seen but I have never found that an issue.

The VP cursor is larger than the position cursor so that it is visible if they overlap.
The position cursor is the last thing drawn on the screen so it isn't obscured by anything else (this is why it can't be larger than the VP cursor).
(I've pointed out that the position cursor is always in the same place. I, too, am puzzled by people not finding it.)

It's great to know the roads a full of such eagle eyed cyclists (like the eagle eyed motorists) but if I have been on the road for 3 days/nights doing a long brevet with less than a few hours sleep and another day to go I might be lucky to spot the 1040 on the handlebar let alone some 4x4mm symbol. All I want is the option for something bigger and maybe brighter like was provided previously, "option" not compulsory for everyone, maybe Garmin can also provide a smaller symbol for the eagle eyes, my 4 decades of IT experience suggests this would be 30 minutes work.thanks

It’s in one place.
If you can’t find the 1040, the cursor being bigger won’t help you.
What you want isn’t unreasonable but, clearly, you still manage.
All the melodrama doesn’t help your case.

If you had a week of corporate IT experience, you'd know the overall time to make this change (and adding the option to change it) would be much more than "30 minutes".
I myself ride multi day events, "Paris Brest Paris" , "London Edinburgh London" etc and probably only get a few hours in sleep in total and I still do not have any problems seeing the riders position on the map. I also wear glasses and even if I do not have them on, I can still see the icon and even if I could not, I know where I am on the map, its position is fixed. Its absolute bumkum to say you cannot see the icon.
What do people need, A large flashing icon with an arrow saying "YOU ARE HERE"
Even that is a nonsensical issue. Its a feature I rarely use but I just tried it to find there is no problem at all.
When you scroll the map, your position marker scrolls off the screen so what good would a larger icon do when you cannot see it. So, if the icon scrolls off the screen, you then zoom out so that you can see the icon and its still easy to spot, but if it was a larger icon, then that would hide a lot of the zoomed out map.
And when I scroll the map to the East of my position, I also know that because the icon may have scrolled off to the left of the screen, then I know that what I am looking at is to the East of where I am, and if I then scroll upwards, likewise, I now know that I will be looking to the map to the South East of where I am. Its called "Situation Awareness". And if I did get disorientated, then I zoom out a bit till I see the icon and then probably zoom out again or leave it as it is.
The riders position icon is even smaller than some of the icons used to mark waypoints etc on the map but I don't see users complaining they are too small to spot despite the fact that they do move with the map so I have to presume people can magically see them.
It is helpful when you are moving the map and want to keep track where you are in relation to another place…
This is grasping at straws. The size is sufficient enough for this situation.
