i frankly do not understand why garmin does not fix this since there are so many people complaining about it
What you should do is take one of the Theme files, rename it and make your changes there and set the Edge to use your theme file. That way the changes are kept.

It is very difficult to understand why Garmin has ignored customer requests on this for years and years, the biggest insult is that the Virtual Partner symbol is nearly twice the size of the location cursor and as most people don’t like the VP anyway, Garmin could solve the problem by just swapping the two symbols, might take 2 minutes of coding. The VP symbol can also have its color changed via the same MapTheme hack but it would be very nice if a more user friendly color change option was provided, that might take an hour to code and 30 minutes to “test”. Come on Garmin, how about a little bit of work on something many customers really want rather than all this stuff I just have to disable anyway and will never use. PS Garmin, send me the code and I will do it for you.
I have the same problem, and the Virtual Partner is just stupid...GARMIN assumes that it is more important to see the VP than ourselfs on the screen :-(
They spent time on stupid sh!t like the group ride sharing (only work with the X40 series) and do not do what so many users are asking.
As far as I know, the theme files only change color, not size...as a workaround I made some marks on the side of the screen for my eyes quickly center on the micro triangle...
Was cleaning out files on my computer and came across some screenshots of my old 530 which reminded me that some years ago, prior to the introduction of the MapTheme options there was a "high visibility" setting which provided a bigger location cursor, only in white with thicker border , if they found the code for this size with the ability to change the central & border color via mapthemes it would satisfy a lot of people.
