BUG: Crank based power meter Inpeak disconnecting from ANT+

I'd like to report a bug with ANT+ connection of crank based power meter from Inpeak. I noticed frequent dropouts during todays ride. Most of the ride was without any power and cadence data displayed. There were also frequent notifications about found power meter.

Garmin is configured completely from zero without any synchronization from older 820 model. There are also no additional CIQ apps installed with exception of Komoot.

My ANT+ connected devices are: Inpeak powermeter, Garmin HRM dual, Bontrager ION PRO and Bontrager Flare RT. All except powermeter worked fine with one connection problem from Ion light but that also was happening on older Garmin Edge.

At home I tried to change powerneters connection from ANT+ to BLE and it seems to show better stability but it isn't tested yet while riding.

  • Does the problem also occur with the latest version of BETA 17.21?

  • why do you need 28T, a 30T would be too big? a 30T chainring with 104BCD, a standard Power2Max NGEco for MTB with a crankset, and your life will be perfect. i know, it costs more (new chainring, new crank and the powermeter) than a wonder inpeak, but if somebody thinks the training with powermeter seriously then he buys the best for his bike. if he just wants to see a purple chart on Strava, better to not buy anything. i have tons of friends who bought stages, inpeak and other miracles at 1st (without my advice), then they all had issues (dead powermeters immediately after warranty period, under or overmeasuring, consistency issue, so everything what you dont want to experience) then they bought a Power2Max, and their life is too boring now, no issues, no weird measurements, just stability... so this is why i really dont understand that people why buy from a different brand , sooner or later (the serious cyclists) buy P2M (once in their life and that unit will live longer than the user...) . i know, they want to spend as less as they can for a powermeter (because they think every powermeter is the same quality and good for their training) but they spend thousands of euros/dollars for fancy (and unnecessary) wheelsets or for ceramicspeed gimmicks for nothing.

  • I have two Inpeak Powercrank devices and have the same problem but only with one of them when paired with Edge 840 or Fenix 7. Second one is working fine. I've contacted Inpeak and was told that they have a solution but I have to send it back to them.

  • Very interesting. What are the differences between the devices? What models and what firmware versions?

BTW - my unit also has problems connecting using Bluetooth. Suunto Ambit 3 connects very reliably and quickly. But Pixel 5 requires many attempts to establish a connection (for firmware update). Windows (using Zwift) and Garmin don't see it at all using Bluetooth.

  • Both are Powercrank custom V3 with latest firmware 3.17
Only one has issues. Second one operates without no problems.

  • ANT ID? is there "0" in the faulty one?

  • Yes, there is 0 in faulty one. No "0" in the second one. So this is the problem?

  • I've read about this "0" before, but my crank doesn't have "0" in ANT+ ID.

  • Yes. (with Inpeak only). They will modify it for a different ID number in the factory (without '0"), it is their "solution".

  • Yea, I don't have 0 int ANT id and still have issues
