Ride Sync over Bluetooth doesn’t work (eBike Data)

Hi,

I’ve got a problem with my new Edge 1040.

When I end and save a ride it doesn’t sync to Garmin Connect if I’m connected to the iPhone with Bluetooth. It works only with Wi-Fi and even in that case I have to force the synchronization.

The Edge connects fine with the iPhone and syncs everything except the rides!!!

I tried to reset the device but nothing has changed.

Does anyone have a solution or some suggestions to try?

It’s so frustrating…. and every time the same with new devices…

Thanks.
Federico

  • This really needs fixing by Garmin. For example, I completed the coast to coast ride over thee days last year. Whilst I was still a garmin edge, 1030 user. My friends and I uploaded our rides every day, so people could follow our progress. I didn’t have access to a PC be able to USB sync to Garmin express. I’m planning to ride Lejog to summer, it will be sad if this issue is not sorted by July

Yes.  However, until now, saving a ride appears to work without an error message, but it actually failed.  It simply doesn't upload anything to Garmin Connect or Strava.  This is with a 2022 Specialized Levo eMTB

  • I have a 2022 Specialized Turbo Levo and a Garmin Edge 830 and a 1040. I also have been going crazy trying to figure out why my cycling activities don’t sync to my Garmin Connect App on my iPhone 14. After a month of going back and forth with Garmin support I solved the problem on my own. I discovered that if you have the Levo eBike paired to your Garmin Edge, it will not sync to the Garmin Connect app via Bluetooth, but only sync when you plug the Edge Into your computer. So if you don’t care about the ebike data field uploading to your activity, unpair or remove the Levo from your Garmin Edge sensor list and activities will upload and sync normally again.

  • Yep that’s what I do but it’s not the point, we paid for a unit which was meant to be e-bike compatable it’s not, garmin are still very quiet on this matter and we deserve to be kept informed of what they are doing about it!

  • This morning I tried turning off wifi on my iPhone before I started a short ride on my Domane+. 1040 synched OK using only  BT and cellular at the end of the ride. So problem may be some incompatibility with wifi and Garmin BT implementation.

  • In my case, as I stated earlier, I tried every fix under the sun more than once, including turning off Wi-Fi, and the only thing that worked was removing the Levo from the Edge Sensor list.

  • But the whole point for me using a Garmin is I need the e-bike data fields as I ride. ( what level of support and how long distance is left on the battery, the Giant revolt e doesn’t have a display as default). That’s actually why I switched back to Garmin from Wahoo. Wahoo was open and honest about the issue with e-bikes ( distance and speed is way off, but synch flawlessly). So I went back to Garmin after many years away from them. And now I know EXACTLY why I left. Garmin doesn’t give 2 cents about their customers after purchase. And still their products are released, and consumers are used as beta testers. Appalling. Right now I regret I didn’t get the HH Karoo 2. And the second wahoo fixes the issue, I’ll fire up my old head unit. Beautiful screen or not, if they can’t fix a simple synch problem that has been an issue since the unit was released, it just shows Garmin doesn’t care at all.

  • Zither silly thing is it works with all other garmins and watches I have had, 530.830, fenix 6, epix 2 just not the flagship 1040 go figure!

  • Tried the above on a longer ride with wifi off during the ride. Sync failed.

  • Just a quick update... WiFi and Bluetooth enabled, Levo removed as a sensor, but cadence and power sensors from the Levo were left connected.  The ride recorded to Garmin Connect and to Strava for the first time in weeks (without needing the PC sync) so there may be something to having the eBike connected to the Garmin as a "sensor".
