Ride Sync over Bluetooth doesn’t work (eBike Data)

Hi,

I’ve got a problem with my new Edge 1040.

When I end and save a ride it doesn’t sync to Garmin Connect if I’m connected to the iPhone with Bluetooth. It works only with Wi-Fi and even in that case I have to force the synchronization.

The Edge connects fine with the iPhone and syncs everything except the rides!!!

I tried to reset the device but nothing has changed.

Does anyone have a solution or some suggestions to try?

It’s so frustrating…. and every time the same with new devices…

Thanks.
Federico

  • Even garmin express is flaky at times, I have to reset the 1040 sometime before it will sync

  • Im also in the same boat most rides dont sync some do its frustrating and I dont have the time to fiddle around with technology. I thought I was purchasing something that would work out of the box… Super disappointed

GARMIN , you are falling short of your high standards and and receiving reputational damage over this one issue, c’mon get this sorted please.  Activities not uploading to Garmin Connect via Wifi/Ble.

    Specialized Creo Evo - ebike.

    Garmin Connect on Android, UK.

    1040 Solar software ver 16.13

Tried all fixes identified in this forum without success

  • I have been working with Former Member and I believe its all working for me now.

Removing my e-bike as a sensor *seems* to have fixed everything for me.. I'm hesitant to say the issue is gone until I get a few more rides in, but the first ride after removing it as a sensor it still didn't sync.  I've since updated to 16.12 and 16.13 and my last 3 e-bike rides sync'ed via bluetooth as soon as I ended the ride.

Here's all of the steps i've done:

    1) Remove the e-bike as a sensor on 1040 device: (Menu > Sensors > Locate your e-bike > Highlight and click Remove

    2) Plug the Edge into a computer and locate it as a hard drive (Finder on Mac or the File Explorer on PC)
    1. Open the Garmin folder
    2. Delete the contents of the following folders:  (make sure you upload your most recent ride before doing so)
      1. Activities
      2. Workouts
      3. Courses
      4. RemoteSW
      5. Newfiles
    3. Empty the Trash/Recycle Bin
    4. Unplug Edge

I'm hoping its been resolved, but will post back after a few more rides.   The only downside I see to not having the e-bike as a sensor is that its not displaying the battery range on the 1040, for me its not a big deal, I still have the Shimano screen, but if this allows me to sync I'll be OK with it.

  • For me, I like the ebike metrics that my 1040 has once the bike is connected. For device that I paid £519 for I want it fixed and I would not accept the work around that remove some of the functionality that I like

  • I agree. The only reason I bought a Garmin device in the first place was to get the ebike metrics. I had (and prefer) wahoo devices in the past. The only reason I switched was to get the ebike info. Particularly battery %, and estimated range remaining. Not willing to remove the ebike as a sensor.

  • I agree, it has worked on every other garmin I’ve had 530, 830,fenix 6, epix 2 etc so not using the metrics is a faff and not acceptable for a premium device

  • When I had a Ribble Endurance sle Ebike it worked perfectly with my Garmin Edge 1030

  • Hi there,

I had this issue connecting my new 1040 to a couple of specialized ebikes. I solved the issue by only pairing the ebikes power and cadence sensors, not the ebikes itself (which is an option).

I noticed the 1040 still connected to both ebikes after I removed the ebikes from sensors so maybe the duplication was the issue.

The rides that didn't sync while the 1040 was connected to the ebike sensor uploaded to Garmin connect once I removed that sensor and connected the device by USBC to Garmin Express.
