Ride Sync over Bluetooth doesn’t work (eBike Data)

Hi,

I’ve got a problem with my new Edge 1040.

When I end and save a ride it doesn’t sync to Garmin Connect if I’m connected to the iPhone with Bluetooth. It works only with Wi-Fi and even in that case I have to force the synchronization.

The Edge connects fine with the iPhone and syncs everything except the rides!!!

I tried to reset the device but nothing has changed.

Does anyone have a solution or some suggestions to try?

It’s so frustrating…. and every time the same with new devices…

Thanks.
Federico

  • My experience with my Specialized Turbo Creo bike is the same as your Levo - ride will not upload via BLE or wifi if my Creo is connected as an ebike sensor. It will sync if only connected as a power meter however. Last fall the rides were syncing succesfully with the ebike sensor paired, so something changed over the winter/spring to cause the current failure. Changes to my setup since last fall include the Edge 1040 16.13 firmware update, a Specialized bike firmware update (implements a new battery charge limit), Garmin Connect app update, and of course the monthly android patches on my phone.

  • Not to come to Garmin’s defense on this eBike syncing problem, but I’ve done a little more research on eBike syncing issues with Garmin devices and discovered that Bosch motors don’t allow third-party‘s to access any of the motor data unless you’re using there software And Specialized Brose motors only seem to allow Battery level and mode data to be accessed by third-party software. Garman seems to be having syncing issues with all their devices for years now and their products aren’t cheap. As a customer, if we’re going to spend that kind of money, I know I expect Garmin devices to work without all these connectivity and syncing problems.

  • Not meant as a personal attack or to be a ***, just want to clarify your post a bit before this spirals out of control as I feel it is not very accurate.

    - The sync issue seems to be related to e-bike Sensors (ANT+ LEV), maybe also Shimano Steps? (based on post below)

    - The Sync issue seems limited to 1040 (and perhaps 840/540 also now?), e.g. Fenix 7s syncs perfectly fine (obviously devices that do not support ANT+ LEV, will not have the sync issue, or the ability to use that data, so that is maybe what you mean to say with 'all devices' having issues)

    - Specialized bikes (Brose motors, Mahle Motors (SL)) support standard ANT+ LEV, which is to be applauded (others also support this)

    - Bosch and Shimano are choosing not to support the ANT+ LEV standards (and I do not think this choice is to benefit the consumer, but only to benefit themselves. Shimano at least does private ANT, which is only slightly better as Bosch IMHO)

edit: removed Fazua as an example as it does not yet seem to have released the LEV implementation yet + added Shimano Steps

Addition: I also have the sync issue with a Specialized Vado SL on Edge 1040

  • I have a 1030 as well as a 1040 Solar. My 1030 workes flawlessy with both SRAM AXS and STEPS at the same time. When I bougt the 1040, it couldn't display data from both sensors simultanously. After a LONG while that finally was fixed, but not so long after the device stopped to sync instead - and still this works just fine on 1030. My expectations are way higher than this, and I don't think I'm unreasonable. In addition I also have rotating map/compass problems which doesn't exactly add up to my satisfaction. Had I know, I wouldn't have bought this device, more than 9 months after purchase, I still haven't got what I had reasons to belive I would, and this is their premium product. I'm really dissapointed, and with reason.

  • I used an Edge 1030 with a Mahle X35 system bike for 3 years with zero issues. i upgraded to an Edge 1040 and a Mahle X20 system Scott Addict eride 30 and this issue wont resolve, its manual daily annoying uploads. its blindingly obvious its the change of operating system in the EDge from 1030 to 1040

  • Beta 17.09 does not help/change it - at least for me.

  • I think the latest beta just relates to climb pro, garmin seem almost to be ignoring the ebike sync problem and releasing probably more flawed new units, it’s all about profit after all

  • Im not going to install beta software, theye are using us to find their bugs,  i paid £519 for a finished and proprly tested GPS

  • As others have observed, my 1030 syncs flawlessly with my Domane+, most recently confirmed this morning. 1040 still a dud in this connection. (Pun unintentional.) I'm tired of waiting for Garmin to fix this. I am going back to my 1030 until they do.

  • Thank you everyone for your participation in this case. This has been resolved in the public Beta 17.21.
