Ride Sync over Bluetooth doesn’t work (eBike Data)

Hi,

I’ve got a problem with my new Edge 1040.

When I end and save a ride it doesn’t sync to Garmin Connect if I’m connected to the iPhone with Bluetooth. It works only with Wi-Fi and even in that case I have to force the synchronization.

The Edge connects fine with the iPhone and syncs everything except the rides!!!

I tried to reset the device but nothing has changed.

Does anyone have a solution or some suggestions to try?

It’s so frustrating…. and every time the same with new devices…

Thanks.
Federico

  • I suspected the same and removed the WiFi a week ago, but it did not change anything for me. So I added it back, at least I can force sync over WiFi when I am home.

  • After that latest Garmin Connect update a few days ago mine syncs over Bluetooth for the first time,... Thanks Garmin. To bad the support didnt have a clue!

  • This problem isn’t new. I’ve had it occur more than a few times with the 1030. Normally I have it set up on home wifi and when I return from a ride it would transfer very quickly. If I was ever away from home it would often transfer via BT over the phone to connect mobile.  Then every so often it would refuse to transfer. Then I would do a full shutdown and restart and it would work over BT. On two occasions it point blank refused and in the end I deleted all BT and wifi and started again and eventually it worked.

Then on the some occasions if I did transfer via BT remotely, then next time when back on wifi it would refuse to work again. I think most times a full shutdown and restart would do the transfer again.

So this is something more fundamental than just the 1040.  This has been a long-standing issue that has never really been fully fixed.

  • I tried starting/stopping new rides this morning with WiFi disabled and both synced to my phone automatically and not too long after saving the ride.  I wanted to test it again after thinking about the issues this weekend.  Others with older Edge models (520+, 530, and 1030+) were having issues uploading as well and we were in an area with weak cellular signal.  Sitting in my home office with good cellular reception it worked fine. (I still don't understand why cellular connectivity should affect uploading by bluetooth, but that's a whole different topic...)

In short, turning off WiFi appears to make Blueooth syncs more reliable assuming you have a good cellular signal. Slight smile

  • The BT connection only does the part with Garmin Connect, but I suspect the Garmin Connect Dashboard showing the rides needs to come from the Garmin servers.  So if you don’t have a signal connection with your phone and the Garmin servers your ride will not show up even though it appears the Garmin device to phone has synced.

  • One would think GC would have the ability to queue the ride on your phone until a good internet connection was available instead of refusing to sync when there isn't one...  Currently I do not think this happens.  But again this is more of a GC issue not necessarily an Edge issue.

  • one would think a lot of things, and be wrong when it comes to garmin.

  • Today, after yesterday’s Garmin Connect App update, finally I was able to synchronize the latest activities right after using Bluetooth.

I tried some more times with activities of just some seconds and everything went well!

  • For me Bluetooth sync has been working perfectly for 4 days. Ever since previous GC Android update installed few days ago. Version 4.57 was installed on 21.07 but it started to work with one version before that. Released few days before.

It's definitely syncing over Bluetooth and at the moment it's only reason I can think of.

  • This still doesn't work for me with latest firmware, garmin Connect and ios. Any thoughts on what I can do to get it working
