Ride Sync over Bluetooth doesn’t work (eBike Data)

Hi,

I’ve got a problem with my new Edge 1040.

When I end and save a ride it doesn’t sync to Garmin Connect if I’m connected to the iPhone with Bluetooth. It works only with Wi-Fi and even in that case I have to force the synchronization.

The Edge connects fine with the iPhone and syncs everything except the rides!!!

I tried to reset the device but nothing has changed.

Does anyone have a solution or some suggestions to try?

It’s so frustrating…. and every time the same with new devices…

Thanks.
Federico

  • Hello same issue with the 1040 Solar and Android. Manually forcing wifi sync is the only thing that works. My garmin watch syncs beautifully over bluetooth. Running Software Version 12.16

  • 12.16 is worse than the previous versions. It was slow and intermittent before. I've given up on BT sync entirely. I just changed my habit to manually force the wifi sync when I get home. It syncs within the expected 10-20s reliably this way.

Adding salt to the wound, the auto sync doesn't even seem to work. I would expect it to sync right away when connected to a known network, but it doesn't. It still requires that i force the sync.

Garmin really released a half-baked product this time. It should not have been released with all these problems.

  • Same thing here. just bumping to help keep this visible.

I have a mobile hotspot in my car, the Garmin said it was connected, but sync kept failing.  I tried to pair with my phone hotspot, it but didn't even show up on the list of available networks.  Once I got home and connected to my home Wi-fi and manually hit the sync option, it finally went through..

  • Adding a vote. Please fix this Garmin. Bluetooth sync is unreliable. Sometimes a few seconds - at other times I can't make it sync at all.

  • I've just completed a 5 day ride, and this bugged me the whole way. It often wasn't possible to connect my Garmin to the hotel wifi each evening (login pages, etc) but the Bluetooth sync was painful and took up to an hour of trying different things. I think rebooting both the phone and the 1040 worked, but it was always a one off, I still never saw the spinner complete, and the next day nothing worked but to reboot everything again.

  • My phone is an iPhone 13 running iOS 15.5. Garmin is a 1040 solar running 12.16

  • Well that must have been a fluke.  Multiple rides over the weekend and none synced automatically.  I was away from home and even tried a WiFi hotspot to my phone and it took forever to sync.

  • Same problem here. Really annoying that the sync wont work... When i reboot the edge 1040 it syncs in a few seconds...
over wifi i think. it wont sync over bluetootj to my Iphone 13....

    Garmin fix this soon!!!

  • I removed the WiFi network from my 1040 earlier this week (I added it with initial setup) and I'm now 2 for 2 of rides uploading via bluetooth connection to the phone successfully right after I end the ride. Will continue to monitor but there's some hope it's related.

Wondering if the scenario where rides ending at home would have the device connect to my home WiFi, then ending/saving the ride is not triggering automatic sync by either method (creating the need for manual sync). Never had the issue with the same scenario on the 1030.
