Strava Segments not syncing Edge 1040

I cannot get my Strava starred segments or courses  to sync on my Garmin Edge 1040 Solar.  I upgraded from a 530 to the 1040 Solar (had no issues with 530 and segments) and always see the same "Sign into your Strava account using your Garmin Connect account" via the segments widget. I am signed in and see "segments" widget on my web-based connect dashboard with my starred Strava segments. In the garmin connect app I see that segments are also enabled.  Anyone else have the same problem?

I have tried these things....

1. Disconnected Strava from Garmin and reconnected (on Strava's website)

2. Disconnected Garmin from Strava and reconnected (via Garmin connect profile)

3. Added new segments in Strava to hopefully force a sync (unsuccessful )

4. Tried syncs with Phone

5. Tried syncs via Garmin express via USB-C Connector.

  • maybe download and put beta 14.14 on then email them. It works great.

  • in a closed thread (beta 14.13) you wrote back that in E1040 there is a limit for SLS at 300.

I have 402 starred segments - today I decided to check the segments I had in the E1040. These were the 100 most recently introduced in Strava.
Keeping in mind what you wrote about the limit of 300 segments, I came up with the idea that the segments from "100" up (eg on pages 6 and up on Strava) turn off the asterisk next to the segment and turn it back on. Then, after performing such operations on the entire page (i.e. 20 segments), I synchronized the meter with the phone. I searched the "Trening / SLS" section after the synchronization was finished and I was overjoyed when the segments started to appear on the list :)
After reaching page 11 (or 220 segments), I had the idea to search the segment list for those segments that were on the 1st, 3rd or 5th page. And then I was shocked - they were removed from the list: ((
I recalculated the segments in the "Training / SLS" section by moving the screen and there are exactly 99 of them: (((((

So the conclusion is that starved segments have removed and displaced the older ones. The limit is 99 segments: (((

Apart from you, I read somewhere that the SLS limit is 300 pieces, but unfortunately it is not.
Do you know if I made a mistake or maybe Garmin put a "muzzle" on my account? ;)

    regards

  • Let me do some research on this. It be that GC is imposing the limit even though the 1040 has increased it.

  • I will be very grateful to you because SLS is very crucial to me.

If I can help in any way, do something, I will be happy to help.

    regards

  • It is also interesting that on the GC website in the "Segment" tile there is 100 (not 99 as in the E1040 device).

Moreover, these segments are not overlapping with each other, they are not the same. It looks like the GC has downloaded 100 segments from "Strava" according to its own key, and the E1040 device via WiFi is downloading 99 segments directly from "Strava" in the order of the last starred.

  • I use Komoot mostly for creating courses and SLS are working also while routing with that courses...

  • Good to know.
How many starred segments do you have on Strava and how many do you have on your Edge and how many on the GC website?

    I have
    - on Strava 405 segments marked with an asterisk,
    - on the GC website it shows me exactly 100 (I do not see the logic behind their display, they are neither by the starred date, nor by the gradient, nor by the distance, as if randomly downloaded from Strava),
    - in the Edge1040 device I have 99 segments (here they are displayed from the newest added to Strava - that is compatible from 1 page with segments upwards).

    greetings

  • So the problem appears to be with Garmin Connect. It is capping the number of Strava segments as 100. I will do some further investigation and raise a ticket with Garmin.

  • Thank you very much for your interest.

If I can help in any way, contribute to the diagnosis, please just let me know.

I love experiments, I pointed out a lot of problems to support both Wahoo and Hammerhead ;)

  • I noticed another problem with Strava segments : when you go closed to a segment ( the edge pops up that we are in approach) but if we don’t take the segment and take another road, the edge will not show the next segments.

I think it is because the edge stays on the segment we don’t take. In fact on the command it proposes to stop the navigation whereas we are not doing a course.

    • To be able to see the next segments I had to press “ stop the navigation “.

anybody has done the same observation ?

on the edge 1030 + there wasn’t the same problem.
